I’ve just seen the first track shot of the Aston, why have they developed a set of rules where the front wing is hung awkwardly about a foot in the air? It’s like they take one step forward and two steps back in terms of the aesthetic appeal of the cars.
They did something similar in 2001 and then again in 2005, raising the front wing. From what I recall the drivers said it made it harder to follow and also looked terrible. Why have they repeated that? Last edited by Sodemo; 11 Feb 2022 at 17:59. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8n-1P86CGzU Not to forget that the old cars were all at a nose-down rake angle of between 1 and 3 degrees, making the front wing seem closer to the ground than the actual minimum height from the reference plane in the regulations. |

Is the Aston Martin the same shade of green as last season?
Images shared seem to make it look a little duller and gluggier if that makes sense Not sure they did a wonderful job of delineating the partners, old and new, on the cat when the green is not the traditional base colours of their logos and washes out in the dullness. Arguably the JaguarF1 treatment from so long ago was more pleasing to the teev camera and consumer brand recognition at speed capabilities... |

They did, and I see DarkTrace is back too... I went thru the agony of an phishing/almost network detonation most recently... and DarkTrace was the tech in place to make sure armageddon didnt actually occur.
Woohoo look at F1 sponsor support (by stealth) |

Well for the moment at least, despite of the complaints all 2022 cars would look the same, the Mclaren, Haas and AM car are much more different in aero concept and look than last generation cars.
Of course they will evolve to be closer going forward. |

Do like the new livery on the McLaren. Or should I say retro livery, with the Gulf like colours. Now that is fever

Looking at the shapes of the cars above, the sidepods of the Haas and McLaren seem to have been designed to throw the aero wash laterally beyond the back wheels, which seems to be in direct contradiction to what the new rules were trying to establish. Just mockups, or the real thing?

I dont imagine the Haas will be anything like it is in the pictures.... they said as much at their launch that theirs was a livery launch based on the concept car and as Red Bull also said the car we see on track will be very different from their (livery) launch cars .

The front wings and nosecones on each of them look pretty much the same. The biggest distinction on each car is the sidepods.

And it makes sense why they wanted to clean it up and simplify, be harder to find loopholes that way

Another one of F1's contradictions, lobby for larger wheels, then cover them up with wheel covers.

Nice looking cars seem to be fairly abundant this year. Now if they can just find a way to scale them down to about 85% of the size................

AT livery looks good (as it has the past few years). The car is probably not showing many real details. I have seen some side by side images of the rear and they pretty closely mirror the FIA car. Others are speculating that it is just a very early render of their work. No way to know how close it may be to the car that shows at testing.

true true...lots of uncertainty around what the teams are willing to show off at this point.
in other, not sure if its real, news, apparently a super bowl ad in some markets announced that the new season of Drive to Survive is out Mar 11...which would be during the Bahrain winter test. so we have launches with misleading cars, an upcoming shakedown test not for broadcast, and now the 'official' first winter test on the same weekend as the launch of their popular season recap reality tv show.... which begs the question of what was the point of giving Bahrain some sort of exclusive test (presumably at a fee) if they planned on giving the fan base something else to watch at that same time? bit of a content management issue going on, new car content is not necessarily accurate, events not being broadcasts, or multiple programming airing at the same time? not that any of this is a big deal of course but it does seem like a bit of backwards step in terms of messaging. |

I suggest that pre season testing isnt seen as a product to market to viewers. It really is for the teams to try out their new contenders. Any coverage or news is a bonus.

In the meantime, Aston has posted footage of their car shaking down at Silverstone.
Good to see footage of one of the new cars, rather than just still shots under lighting effects. |

I don't know why they needed a truck for the cars though, should have put some travel tyres on and nipped across the road |
