Ah well that's entry to an enclosed area - same way they can charge admission for the zoo!

Yeah, I remember helping the marshals with crowd control with my Dad in about '84 and being abused by joggers when I stopped them running onto the back straight!! One of them told me I broke his stride.....better than his legs I remember thinking but I wasn't quite as mouthy back then!!!
As for the apparentl lack of spectators, the place was packed, just that the biggest crowds are at the first and last corners, and the cameras shoot from above them so you can't see them! And the circuit is the seame as it was in '95, except for the addition of the chicane. The RPM coverage is rolling out from last week onwards on Motors TV and Sky Sports and has been doubled in length (since the UTV version)from 23 to 48 mins per programme, well worth watching!! |

I think i can beat all your jogger storys, i got a guy cycling along the path in the breaking zone for the fury glen with a pack of fiats comming towards him this year. He had the cheek to ask us to stop shouting at him and went and complained to the garda on the corner that myself and another marshal had shouted at him and dragged him accross the circuit and all he was doin was cycling home lol!!

To be fair, The Park doesn't draw the same amount of spectators that it did back in the mid to late 1970s. There were stories of up to 100,000 people crammed into the Hawthorn circuit and I remember as a kid in 1978/1979 being 3 deep on the run down to Ratra during the Atlantic race. I guess that may be what people are referring to by a fall off in spectators, don't know.
That said, its a brilliant testamony to the efforts of everyone involved in organizing the event that we even have The Phoenix Park races at all in recent years. |

Sylvie Mullins is indeed a 'he' and was driving a F3 Ralt RT33. Should probably have won on Saturday.

Just seen the Motors TV version and it contained no part of the Sky WMS version.A third episode is promised for next week with Spikers,Vees, etc not yet seen!
Todays coverage great with in can shots from historic sports.Still baffled why I can't see any spectators or marshals.Racing between unprotected trees I am sure would not be allowed anywhere else? |

Check out Con Connolly's fab collection of 2007 Park Pics which show ample evidence of tree protection, marshal presence and spectator presence as well as some great racing shots! |
