TC2000 championship rules have been published.
6 out of 12 rounds will be regular. These will have two sprint races that will award 5-4-3-2-1 points to the top 5 finishers, and a feature race with a merged grid that will give 26-21-18-16-14-12-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 to the top 15 finishers. The top 12 drivers in the standings will get grid penalties for the sprint races. Special rounds will have two sprint races without grid penalties, and the feature race will give 30-24-20-17-16-15-14-13-12-10-8-6-4-2-1 points to the top 15 finishers (it's the strangest scale I've ever seen). The 200 km of Buenos Aires will give 34-29-25-22-20-18-16-14-12-10-8-6-4-2-1 points to the top 15 finishers. That's a more logical scale. The final round won't have sprint races, and will give give 29-24-20-17-15-13-11-9-8-7-5-4-3-2-1 to the top 15 finishers. That's another strange scale. |

Sergio Rinland, an Argentine engineer who wrked with several F1 teams (including Sauber where he designed the C20 that put the team 4th in 2001), is helping the Renault TC2000 works team from his studio in the United Kingdom.

I really envy the South Americans for their touring car championship. I mean, Argentina isn't as wealthy as Germany, yet they have a way superior championship. Too bad the series isn't broadcasted in Europe.

The red front livery and yellow side livery of the FIAT looks great but together it isn't working.
The Renault looks great. A shame the Toyota logo on the engine cover is gone. |

They want June 26 to be the Buenos Aires street race and December 4 to be the 200 km of Buenos Aireas at the Gálvez Autodrome. But street races are tricky stuff in big cities, and drivers don't want to decide the championship with guest drivers.

Altuna takes pole position for opening round
Equipo Petrobras driver Mariano Altuna has taken pole position for the first round of the TC2000 championship at the General Roca circuit, denying Guillermo Ortelli a debut pole with the new Renault Fluence. The 28-year-old driver took pole position with a time of 1:33.494 in the Honda Civic, beating Ortelli in the Renault by just eight-thousandths of a second. José Mar*a López, who had been fastest in the morning practice session, qualified third in his new ride at the Scuderia Fiat Oil Combustibles team, whilst 2010 champion Norberto Fontana put his Ford-YPF Focus in fourth. Leonel Pern*a was the second qualifying Honda, and will start fifth, just ahead of the top Toyota of Mariano Werner. Altuna will not line up on pole however for the first race tomorrow, with the championship’s handicap system dropping drivers based on their 2010 championship standings for the first race of the day. 01 Mariano Altuna | Honda 1:33.494 02 Guillermo Ortelli |Renault +0.008 03 José Mar*a López | Fiat +0.025 04 Norberto Fontana | Ford +0.102 05 Leonel Pern*a | Honda +0.116 06 Mariano Werner | Toyota +0.267 07 Nestor Girolami | Honda +0.430 08 Mat*as Rossi | Toyota +0.453 09 Emiliano Spataro | Fiat +0.508 10 Bernardo Llaver | Toyota +0.690 Touringcartimes |

Wow, I'm surprise that Honda and especially Fiat did so little yesterday. On the other hand, Peugeot and Renault have moved forward a lot, even if no Losange finished in the front group. Ford and Toyota keep running in the front, and Chevrolet are still the worst works team.

Entertaining races.
2nd podium for Peugeot since their current TC2000 involvement? Because the Brazilian series has become reality I have created a separate topic for that series. Last edited by FIRE; 17 Mar 2011 at 21:15. |

Mmm... I really don't like the front end. And those colours don't match. At least the car is last-gen.
This weekend, the TC2000 visits Autódromo Jorge A. Pena at San Mart*n, Mendoza. |
