But what would the local Mustang expert bid on it?

what is restored
At Bathurst 2003, sitting next to each other were four (4) of Australias more significant 'tin tops' - the Beechey Monaro, the Geoghegan Super Falcon, the Jane Camaro & the Moffat Mustang.
The Mustang looked distinctly second hand compared to the pristine presentation of the Monaro & the Camaro. You get what you pay for. Lets hope the Beechey Mustang doesnt get passed in - some of the quoted figures on private sales of cars in Australia seem fanciful when compared with auction results in the US & Europe. I was looking forward to comparing the newly restored JPS BMW 635 with the very original Bob Jane Schnitzer 635 at the Muscle Car masters in Sydney, but sadly neither are attending ... another time. |

Why is one of the Bimmers in an auction or something?
Interesting further thoughts on the 'restorability' of the Beechy car. I guess the bidding on the car as it is isnt the issue, it's what happens to it afterwards that is the key thing. Bottom line is though, that if someone wants to pay the money and do it up they will. I hope so, it would be great to see how restoration progresses! |

Talking to another historic touring car racer on the weekend at the MCM, apparently the car does not have its logbook - which does still exist and the owner is well aware of its value...

It would be nice to get hold of the original log book (it should stay with the car) however, you can apply to CAMS for another (no biggie). I see the bid for the car is up to 100K https://cars2.ebay.com.au/_W0QQcmdZV...mZ270273486149 |

Interesting, I checked yesterday only a couple of hours before the end and it was still on the initial $100k bid, there was another 10 bids to achieve that result. Hopefully we will be hearing more about this car in the future

I for one am very pleased this car has been sold . I hope it will be restored to a representation of a period some time in its past. I know it is not complete & will never be 100 % original, but that really doesnt matter. It is better to be rebuilt to be enjoyed than to languish away in its current state in someones shed. It may not be as important as other historical race cars from our past, but they all cant be. As time passes the pool of significant cars will get smaller & eventually dry up. I would rather have Grandpas axe than one from bunnings.
I would like to see the car in Neptune livery, but thats just me. Cheers David |

Yeah...I agree with you...would be terrific to see Norm's old machine tootling around....oops, my bad....spelt Total wrong!! Even better, would be to see Norm re-acquainted with the Mustang that kicked off a very special period of black-top racing in this country (no matter how many they made Norm! ) |

There you go 275 GTB-4. Are there any of the other Neptune cars around ? The S4 is I think, what about the Cortina & the Mini ?

Neptune Cortinas
Indeed, both the mark 1 & mark 2 Lotus Cortinas from the Neptune/Trident era - where are they?

265GTB-4 theory of relativity, lets see if I got all this right, had you bought the Norm Mustang,265GTB-4 panel of experts could firstly supply all the panel and parts required for about Quote; 'About'!!, $5000aud max,instalation/labour Quote;'should not exceed $15.000aud Quote; 'I would imagine',then goes on to subjests a 289 'k' code engine, that some times come up for sale, but may need some work, might set you back$8/10.000aud, a 4 speed manual 'might' set you back $1500aud...Still Quoting;..this is obviously 'Set Off' by the sale the 390/and trick auto,Lola suspension parts, racing seats, two sets of wheels, which 'COULD' bring 'MORE' than $15.000aud, so the rebuild to the 'Neptune' specs,as subjested come in around $ 31.500aud,less the sale of the parts Quote;'more than $15.000'....Total Rebuild for the sum of $16.500aud.....Wow,......makes the genuine 'K' code Mustang we are working on exspensive at $75.000's not to mention the 'World' search for parts, 265GTB-4, I am pleased your Mother has recieved her 'Rightful' Heritage ,but can we 'cease with 'Gilding the bloody Lily'........ IT's 'SOLD', moving on, and by all means take 'Umbrage !!

Whats my mother got to do with the price of eggs??? Do you mean that she and I are somehow benefitting from this sale? What part of NO WAY JOSE don't you understand!! Since you have mentioned my Mum, well I'll throw in my Dad as well and thank them for having a keen interest in car racing...the times we belted the FJ out to Oran Park are priceless memories for me...Ohhh, mustang connection, my Mum enjoyed and was thrilled by Big "Sneaky" Petes antics as was myself and thousands of others. As for the cost estimates, I'm not going to go over the rough estimates to get the thing back on the road again. There are expensive restorations done for people where money is no object and there are equally as good restorations done by clever backyarders who know their limitations, spend their money wisely, beg, borrow or st...(no.. none that I know off) parts, working bees, spend carefully targetted funds with experts only when absolutely necessary because they want to/enjoy using their excellent handskills to begin with. Genuine K Code???...hmmmm....wonder if that might be my friends...I think his work was done in Syd-a-knee....oil ask. Never ever tried to glide a lilly...I think the aerodynamics would be all wrong though Cheers, Mick |
