No engine/track sounds but that is not clearly not a stream issue... whoever is responsible for mixing the feed with the RLM comms...
Annoying and it is like you're watching an endless replay. |

Sound appears out of sync during the interview, and there's a LOT of stuttering for me tonight. Shame, it's normally spot on.

Well, let's be honest. Is anyone really surprised that the first live session of 2018, we're dealing with issues with IMSA live streams?
Anyone using the app? I gave up on that crap about this time last year? |

And the 77 Mazda will not make this session. Found something in an engine data log that they didn't like? What could that be?

Helio probably could have done another one for pole but thought he already sealed it. Damn Cadillac's!

Both Nissans out ! what a mess.
Great fight at the top, literally a tie. The Oreca are faassst always, Ligiers sucks. 13 cars in a single second ! |

As this is the beginning of the year, I have to say once again that IMSA's website is a steaming pile of dog ****. ...there, I feel better!
Sounds like it was a good session. What happened to the Nissans? |

Several people seemed to get wide at T5 / west horseshoe in the P cars. Lapierre went the widest and found the tires.

Top 8 entirely made of Cadillacs and Orecas, covered by a whopping half a second.
Mazda posted a 1:36.633, less than a tenth off of 8th place(1:36.567), and almost 3/10ths over 10th place(1:36.931). Good signs on their pace, though the failure of the second one to run the session is cause for concern. For reference, the fastest Mazda last year did 1:39. The top 13 in P were within a second of pole with the 13th fastest time being set by Fernando Alonso at 1:37.008 - the only Ligier(or Ligier-based) car to go under 1:38. From the look of things, a considerably more fairly-balanced field than last year, but still some concerning gaps. I'm of the belief that there will never be a truly properly balanced race at Daytona due to it's unique nature, there only being one opportunity to get it right each year and it happening at the start of the season making it impossible to use season-long performance as a metric(things always change a bit during off-season development, even in classes that restrict such). But I think this is the closest we'll ever see the P class get at Daytona. Particularly considering that the difference from pole to second was 0.007s between two cars that can't get much different without being in different classes. |

I don't know what happens with the Ligier, because their top speed is good, the engine is the same Gibson as the Orecas, but their lap time is far from the top. Maybe they need to understand better how the new splitter work. There is nothing to do about the Riley/Multimatic. It's plain slow, the team received the last new parts before practice 1 and the drivers don't know the new P2 cars. So, it's not crazy to think that this car could be faster at the end of the race than we saw today. If they can run in 1.39 1.40 it will be a miracle. |
