The initial production run of 20 cars - later expanded to 24 has been sold.
I presume the limit is more to do with being able to build the cars in time rather than a grid limit, so maybe further cars may be built later on. |

Looking at the provisional calendar, the maximum number of sub 2000cc racing cars that can feature on one grid for some circuits is as low as 26-28 (depending on which Oulton configuration is used). As the prospect of non-qualification would deter some entrants, I would be surprised if the number of cars grew much beyond 24.

Walkinshaw Racing have been announced as having the final places on the grid. Some fairly respectable outfits on the grid (and Walkinshaw Racing, ba-doom tish)

I know this topic has died off now but after reading through the thread I thought there was an interesting point that was briefly mentioned and that was the development of future engineers.
As an engineering student, I personally feel there aren't a lot of opportunities to develop a knowledge in the engineering side of motorsport. I know some people will come back and say you have to look for opportunities or that you can do motorsport specific courses at colleges/university but I the idea that the japanese use is something that would be good for both drivers and engineers and something the UK could really do with. |

Anyone know if any cars have been built yet? I have heard that there may be crash test issues.

There has been comment on the crash test issue for some time now, interestingly our motorsport journalists no longer report on important topics.
A sad state of affairs. |

What is the realistic deadline for passing the crash test and still being able to fulfil build orders in time for next season? With pre season testing in Feb I would think it's getting tight?

Donington can start 38, as can Snetterton. Even Brands Indy is 32. |

Not that it matters, as I can't remember any single seater championship with anywhere near that sized grid in the last five years. |

The 2011 British Formula Ford championship also had a grid in the high 20's when it raced at Brands due to the combined Euro Cup entry and managed 38 cars at Zandvoort in 2010 which counted for points for the British Championship. But yes Sceptic sadly your remark generally rings true the worst case IMO being Intersteps. Just 7 cars at their final round this year. |

Formula Vee regularly sees 28 car entries with reserves at Brands so some single seater series do hit the limits...

Yes I saw that story this morning too. Would appear the crash test rumours were nothing more than that. Ralph knows what he's doing. Look forward to seeing the car at the Autosport show!

If they can make this work, it could be a really good championship, although its a pity Formula Ford couldn't have been more proactive and made the obviously necessary changes first, can't help think they've made their updates a little too late...
But F4 could be a great stepping stone for both drivers and engineers, which has been missing since the very good national FBMW championship disappeared... |

F 4 always used to be a far better series/championship than FF,when an FF race was about to start, that was when everyone went for a coffee .!
70s/80s saw some excellent F4 scraps |

Anyone know what's happening with TV coverage next year? Will F4 be on Motors? Haven't heard anything on this.
Bit late but I've seen they've found more power in the engine. Now stated as 185bhp, up from 175. |

I seem to remember reading that there would be coverage on Motors TV – an hour-long highlights show after each meeting I think.

Are any of you attending the Autosport Show tomorrow? If someone could post some piccies of the new car online I'd be grateful. I'm assuming some will be up on the F4 site at some point in the day.

More pics:
http://formula4.com/news/f4-car-launch.aspx http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...6535539&type=1 On first impressions it's an attractive looking car, though it's hard to really see it with the cluttered livery and the general darkness in those workshop shots. |

Was at the show yesterday, saw the F4 car on the MSV stand. The pictures don't do it any justice at all - it looks very impressive and a serious racing car - far more grown up than the winged FFord and unbelievable for the price.
