RIP old sound. But is it a new engine or just the different exhaust?

Or they're just playing tricks by trying to hide the sound.

For me the different "old style" sound comes from the exhaust layout: in fact, if you remember, when the mid-engined RSR was unveiled in 2017 it had a lovely and raw 996 RSR tone, due to the two rear but separated pipes. Then for the 2017 24h Le Mans pre-tests, Porsche changed the configuration to the one we're used to (two very closed and centered pipes) giving her the great high pitched noise. Same happened with the Porsche Cayman GT4 (981) and the current 718 Cayman GT4: same engine, different exhaust system.

^ 6s and 12s seem to have a weird resonance with the twin central exhaust exit, just listen to the Aston Martin V12 in the DBR9 (sideskirt exhaust exits) and then the exact same engine, but with a different exhaust setup, in the LMP1 AM-Lola.

That's the one. It's very different to the current 911 RSR and it can't be a GT3 car given that Porsche already introduced a new evolution of the GT3.
