Saw it yesterday, interesting looking beast with a really rorty exhaust note!!

Is it me or is it a bit of an R8-NSX mash up in looks though?

Why is it called a 'mule'? Is the exterior likely to change much?

It's bits and pieces thrown together to test particular parts. That's usually what a test mule is.

Maserati needs to develop its racing capacity and capability, so GT2 likely perceived as a less risky reentry into racing.

Penultimate round of the European GT2 series coming up this weekend at the Ricardo Tormo race track in Valencia (https://www.gt2europeanseries.com/event/80/valencia), but no announcement yet that Maserati will take part with the new MC20 GT2.

Is Maserati delaying the race debut till the final round at Paul Ricard?

MC2o GT2 debut
The Maserati had a fantastic debut in the GT2 championship at Paul Ricard, setting pole in the qualifying session on Friday (https://www.gt2europeanseries.com/ne...-claim-am-lead), and getting a P2 in race 1 after leading most of the race (https://www.gt2europeanseries.com/im...sification.pdf). Also, a very credible P7 in race 2 after getting a 10 second penalty for breaching pit stop rules.

That's great but they need to do a GT3 version for what is a much more competitive level.

Thanks, yes I saw an upload over the weekend of it running. Looks and sounds amazing?

A track day only special at the moment but could it really be a GT3 test mule as well?

The Maserati MC20 started the 2024 GT2 European Series season with winning Race 1 outright at Paul Ricard: https://www.gt2europeanseries.com/ne...it-paul-ricard.

In Race 2, unfortunately the LP Racing team #1 car driven by Gorini and Tamburini spun on a the penultimate lap, but the team still got a good result also in Race 2, with the #2 car driven by Prette winning the AM class and getting a P3 overall: https://www.gt2europeanseries.com/ne...er_team_news=0

Mixed fortunes for the Maserati GT2 cars this weekend at Spa. An excellent Friday with wins in both the PRO-AM and the AM classes in Race 1, was followed by more modest results in Race 2 on Saturday, with only Leroy in the TFT Racing’s car getting on the podium: P3 in the AM class.
