Sarrazin was not the fastest because its the first time he drove the car with the updated package- http://www.toyotahybridracing.com/to...one-in-brazil/. Buemi was able to get within .7 of Audi's best at the end of the session while Audi did not go any faster. So buemi did a 22.6 while the #1 did a 22.0 at the end of fp2. Still close but Davidson looks to be the most comfortable in the car.

I doubt that the sprint package makes a huge difference: more downforce, perhaps a bit more power and a more aggressive hybrid mapping.

Looking at the FP 2 times, and considering that the fastest Audi and Toyota laps were only about half a second apart, to see Toyota being well over a second off on average time, though this is early days and well have to wait until FP3 to see if this repeats (and establishes a pattern), either Toyota are running of their tires late in the stint (they shouldn't--they had no trouble quadruple stinting at LM and the higher downforce should help with tire wear), or, more likely, they're struggling with traffic.
I see the latter as the probable issue. Toyota have been down on Audi in terms of top speed all year, and Toyota have also struggled to match the R18's acceleration when neither car can use their hybrid systems. Torque and speed are essential for working traffic in race conditions. Toyota may have competitive speed over a flying lap, but if they can't use that speed because of getting bottled up in traffic and knowing that they might have difficulty in said traffic with passing can't help them. And we do know from Spa and Silverstone that Audi had a much easier dealing with traffic than Toyota did. That's where I think that much of the average of 1.2 seconds a lap came from in FP2, and come the race, if traffic is the issue, we can only expect more of the same. I can't see Toyota using up their stuff unless it was to get around lapped traffic, which that itself poses a possible issue. It would be interesting to see if trap speeds/sector times, or better yet, traffic bottle necks are giving an advantage/disadvantage to either Audi or Toyota. |

Ok.. It was Sarrazins first time driving the updated package, Buemi and Davidson tested at Lausitzring. That imo is why he wasn't quite as fast as his teammates, plus he did the long run so theres no reason to set the fast laps. And yes the sprint package is a noticeable difference, why wouldn't it be?

I still think that is not a true sprint package, but a modified LDF package. Anyway top speeds tell us something: 2012 r18 e-tron (190cm rear wing) max speed 282km/h, 2013 r18 e-tron (200cm rear wing) 285km/h so far. It looks like audi uses still a very powerfull map for the engine, fuel miliage should smile again to toyota, but how much if TMG is using a more powerfull map?

For all of those confused about when qualifying starts, GTE qualifying begins at 14'35 local São Paulo time followed shortly after by LMP qualifying. The conversion to ALL MAJOR CITIES/TIME ZONES is here!:

Separated by .160 at the front between Audi and Toyota after practice 3. Should be a good qualifying matchup.

Agreed... it'll be interesting to see whether Toyota can finally take the fight to the Audi juggernaut, even if it is with only 1 car. I honestly hope they can.

Are they using that horrible aggregate time quali system again?

Yeah, it's as if they don't want the fans to know what's going on until the session is over.

GTE session finished.
The unlikely Stanaway/Lamy combination just grabbed pole position overall. Cioci/Griffin have the pole for GTE-Am. |

Is it me or does Buemi look like to be the slowest of the Toyota guys by far?
