You were there chatters?
I was in the blue and white MR2. I was running in the same group as the Subaru throughout the day but missed the sessionin which it crashed for one reason or another. I ran on the final session being one of the last car to circulate at speed although Ian and his son certainly did put on a performance in the HO being the last cars to enjoy the track at speed. It was a great day. Its one thing to remove a sporting facility for development. Its a very poor act not to allow another facilty allowed to be built as a replacement. In fact with so much notice of closure, its appauling that this useless government has done nothing to support a multi million dollar industry being motorsport. All they had to do was allow an open door for a facility with no red tape and it would happen. |

From another forum from a driver who was there
"One guy tank slapped his Turbo Liberty and enptied his ashtray onto his lap. I think the whole of the pit lane saw the incident as people said "ohhhh" when he crossed it up exiting the bridge, then all eyes were on the Subi, then she gracefully crossed back and it was off to the grass (sideways) and over she went." |

Well, somebody had to have the dubious honour of being the last crasher at Oran Park.

Cavvy, I didnt state 'the govenment should fund a new facility'. They need to clear the way for private investors to build new facilities without government red tape holding back progress.
I heard of two instances where the government has effected progress of new facilities which is disappointing to say the least. Still Im glad i was there for the last day and will remember it well. Have a look at 'Hampton Downs' in NZ. This model should have been approved and built in Australia long before OP was closed but that life in NSW.. |

I don't even know this track but i've been reading the last few pages. Very sad. I know if somewhere like Brands Hatch (the most local track to me) was knocked down, i'd be devastated..

The second pic indicates they could use Ian Luff for a bit of driver training - the lines they are takig on the downhil run to the corner are shocking

This bums me out seeing these pictures.
Everything comes and goes, but the fact that houses are replacing this is silly, as just what we need, more houses, I think it's like Amaroo Park, no one really understands the reality of it, until it's gone. Amaroo I found to be an interesting little track and just dumb a couple of houses sit on it today. |

If we see Barbagallo off the scene, then the only tracks with real elevation changes will be PI (not as much) and Bathurst, I think that's pretty sad. |

These pictures indicate Amaroo Park has seen precious little development in this picture from 2005. http://www.lagler.com.au/oran2.htm
