Is it too late for the CTCRC to stand on it's own? I don't think so. Perhaps if it did, the numbers would come back as the costs per competitor fall. I know it's crazy that we compare/complain about the cost of entering a championship when in reality it's less than a couple of tyres, or a a few tanks of fuel. But we're all watching the costs these days, trying to keep the expenses of officialdom to a minimum so we have another £10.50 to spend on the car.
Its not rocket science get a comp sec in place who knows what he's doing and buy race slots like the Nippon Challenge , BARC SE , JEC , do, then sort out the series amalgamating where needed and reduce the mem fees to an attractive level. Before people start moaning about amalgamating whats worse that or it dying out completely, restore it when the numbers pick up.

Perhaps not rocket science, but probably quite difficult to get a popular calendar with well spaced events. The examples cited generally tend to book a maximum of two grids (and have merged series so that all of their runners can be accommodated on grid), which means that they can fill gaps on other clubs' timetables and probably gain more choice as a result. I would imagine that the CTCRC, by organising more competitions, may lack some of this flexibility.

Dont think its difficult at all if they can do it so can anyone, just needs some organising, merge the series so that you have one or two good grids instead of the pathetic showings that you have at present, this would in turn lower the entry fees and therefore attract more entry's. Clubs with small grids need to look at why and do something about it before they are history.

Er the club has just amalgamated pre 73 with pre 83 I suggested it would have been better to stretch the pre 66 class to pre 70 as that would keep out the escort and big mini but would have allowed some yank iron in, you can guess the reaction lol.

Al so they might have but at Oulton they had one reasonable grid and four sparse ones, the four could have been combined to form two, better all round. Pre 70 ? escort came in 67 and 1275 Cooper S was about 66 , perhaps they have a thing about Yanks ( or is it you LOL )

Without wishing to go to far off on a tangent, one thought that springs to mind (and I'm not a driver, so make of this what you will) is that I'm sure some drivers would prefer to be on a grid where cars are of a broadly similar level of performance. As an example, last week's BRSCC meeting at Rockingham merged the Smart Cup with the Euro Saloons and Sportscar Championship. In qualifying, the car at the back of the grid was 52.983 seconds slower than the pole sitter. I'm not sure some drivers would relish spending an entire race being lapped by much quicker machinery.

The old record is playing again Al, you won't give up will you! Very surprised to hear they only made yanks after 1966 - you had better tell the HRDC etc.
The 1275 Cooper S came out AND won the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964, so that is why we have 1300 Minis in all Pre 66 racing.
What a shame you are not interested in competing unless you can win - quite a lot of spectators liked watching your Camaro.
A bit sad to see the CTCRC being "knocked" - they do a good job, have a nice bunch of competitors, and not everyone wants 45 minute races.

Oh Tim please don't make me laugh, not competing unless I can win???? I have never won a race in my life and have steadfastly supported CTCRC since 2005 when there were 25 car plus grids even when down to single figures. No what I want is to have a race which I can do still in 93's although I will never beat one of the at least ten registered BMW M3's, if all I wanted to do was win I would save myself a pile of cash and buy one of those. Btw where we do agree is the 45 minute race format, I am not keen either.

Having said that I still think we need to look long and hard why certain things are happening and where and why guys are moving and if one of the reasons is more affordable racing by virtue of low start up costs or 40 minute shared racing then maybe if that's what the majority want then to think of a change of strategy.

Depends how long the race is and if there are classes to accomodate that driver having something to aim for?

I think the idea of sharing a car is appealing. That's why I loved Thundersaloons as they were before the BRSCC mucked it up. Two drivers. 75 mile races, and would love to run the Belmont in a series for similar cars where we can share the drive (and costs!!).

Amalgamating the championships is probably the most sensible way to go for the poor numbers in the CTCRC (if they don't pick up). Just run them as classes in a single race. If the numbers pick up, they can run on their own.

You'll have space for "open saloons", "open sports", or even "Formula Libre" races in the day, and oddly enough, those races often fill up to be big grids if well publicised.

And it's these big grids that should reduce the cost for all competitors as we pay for track time. £nnnn divided by 10 is much more than divided by 30 for those of you who struggle with maths.

I'm going to stop short of my usual "we need to change the way it's all run" diatribe.
