Mercedes have been making pessimistic noises about the amount of cash needed to put Wehrlein in at Manor. I really hope it happens, but I'm not crossing my fingers.

So Wehrlein is now off at Manor.
According to spanish journo, Juncadella will take his seat while Ocon will take the Mercedes Petronas C Class at Mucke. |

It's a pity that the only guy, who could have been sort of marketed as the next German DTM star (Given how the DTM has failed to market their prior German champions) is now leaving for Formula 1 and gets replaced by a talented, but ultimately unknown driver, who doesn't provide much interest for the German public. A shame

Interesting driver's pairing. Juncadella and Gotz promoted to HWA. Vietoris and Auer at Mucke. I wonder how much Mucke will benefit from those moves. Art Grand Prix might be the dark horse.... |

I really see little in Gotz or Auer. Mucke will hope Christian can bring Auer along some |

Lucas did set a pole but falied on his promise. They were not as good as Blomqvist but they deserved a second shot. Also the Mercedes was not the best car quite clearly. |

Götz deserves another crack given he's won the GT Masters and the BSS.

Probably he went with HTP Motorsport to Bentley because he had no contract with Mercedes. Also because Buhk is much younger than Gotz it's a bit strange Mercedes went for Gotz.

Both Mercedes Mucke cars will carry BWT sponsoring.
Good news for DTM in general, more sponsors money involved, less manufacturers money in. |

Even though more money and sponsorship is pouring in, DTM is still stale as German manufacturers only race there to groom their drivers, especially F1 prospects.

Japanese Autosport web reports the rumor that DTM manufacturers and ITR want to decrease its participation car number from 8 cars to 6 cars due to cost reduction.

Unless and until DTM and Super GT align, it's difficult to see another manufacturer joining the DTM circus. Unless GM can be tempted back...

There was confirmation on Motorsport-Total that BMW will reduce to 6 cars for next season. They're unhappy that the DTM regulations are still only a national platform which is why they'll join the WEC in 2019.
Not sure about the other manufacturers though. In its current state, I can't see any other join the series either, so a reduction of all manufacturers to six cars would put some doubt over the series' future. |

Martin Tomczyk has called time on DTM to switch to GT racing with BMW.

Bit of an odd decision, as he'll only be 35 next year, which is hardly ancient for tin-tops. Still, good to see another pro driver chasing a career in GTs.

Since he joined BMW, Tomczyk's performances have been lackluster. He hasn't won a single race in 5 years. I am not sure if BMW would have kept him for next year anyway, when they have to drop 2 drivers.

Yep
Better voluntary step down to GT3 but still factory driver than totally removed from BMW's program. |
