If the car was first logbooked in 1989, there is no way it will be accepted as a Group C Car. The Group C association insist that the car must have raced as a Group C car prior to 1985. In fact, CAMS have not and will not issue a Group C logbook since 1985. Also, 2D is the old classification for Sports Sedans, prior to their reclassification in category 3 a few years ago.

David theoretically there may have been an earlier log book and the 89 logbook was just a new one when it was turned into a sports sedan
Further sleuthing shows that the car on Akka's flyer is the same one as the pictures in the logbook and the same car as the ebay photos. The plot thickens It's not Witter's real ex Group C Commodore ( he ran it as a sports sedan) on the flyer as I originally thought. The heading on Akka's flyer "Group C Commodore" must be wrong. At least I think it is highly likely at this stage..... still sleuthing..... |

supposed Gp C commodore
I also am a local and made numberous calls to the seller. if that exact car had a prior GpC log book, the current book would be clearly marked either "replacement" or "continuation" I was told this was not the case.

XWGT there is no chasis over here in WA racing mate. The only falcon or crapadoor is the Vince Falcon that i think was a Shell DJR chasis.

Also it is possible that a totally new 2/3D logbook for the car was issued. Logbooks do not neccessarily tell the whole story. To demonstrate the car is what is claimed the owner must demonstrate clear line of ownership supported by each owner, log books, photos and race results from the period. If this cannot clearly be done then the car may not be accepted by CAMS. Before the purchase of any Historic car buyers must satisfy themselves of this history. Remember log books are not neccessarily enough evidence. If you have any doubts talk to the eligibily officer about the evidence provided by the seller. The officers are Frank Lowndes in Vic and Vince Macri in NSW. See the CAMS Historic web site for more info. With Group C/A cars now attracting big money buyers must be very cautious - remember there are a bunch of log books floating around for cars that are long gone. CAMS are well aware of this hence the need for other supporting evidence. |

He's having a rethink about what to keep, if it didn't win a championship it will probably come up for sale in the near future.

The Gazelle was an interesting car... if you recall the road version which was a POS... and indeed the story around the lead driver, and now multiple touring car and Bathurst chanpion perhaps helping the codriver, part of a senior Nissan dealership in SA at the time, to get qualified for the Great Race of 1987.... |

Not just any Bluebird, it is in fact the lap record winning car of George Fury. It is immaculate.

There are 2 HR31s in the collection..one was bought in the mid 90's from Fred Gibson which lead to the discussion a few years later about selling the Gibson collection ( which included another HR31).

I think you'll find that car was actually sold to Rod Markland a couple of years ago. It was replaced by the cars that were in Gibsons possession at the time of the bulk purchase.

It was in MN this week, so presumably reasonably new... isnt this the car that is mentioned earlier in this thread where the provenance looked a bit doubtful??
