Personally and from a technical point of view, i think its a wrong decision but politics > all, especially in the VAG Group. |

Earliest Audi Sport will be back is 2020 when new rules go into effect.
Why else keep all 200 employees who worked on the LMP1 program if they don't expect to be back or aren't working on something? I doubt that generosity on the part of Audi and Audi Sport is the number one factor here. |

Unfortunately, new technology usually brings new cost. The present rules set proves that. And as far as getting Peugeot back, they don't want to spend even Toyota's budget on a LMP1 program.

Who says they have to? Just because Audi spent something like $150, 200 million, does that mean everyone else has to? No, it doesn't. The new rules like two body kits instead of three means teams don't have to worry about tunnel hours going to an additional version of the car. There's no one to blame but VAG who spent so much money they set a precedent to compete. With Audi gone and new rules, the wec has said cost cutting is one of if not the top agenda. If anyone read the news and the interviews, they would know this. It seems like most don't bother, they just want to blame the rule makers because they feel hybrids are bad and the reason why it's expensive.

I wonder if all these articles I've read about cost cutting will be as successful as the F1 cost cutting articles I've read.

I don't know if f1 is a good comparison to the wec in terms of the cost cuts. They have only one engine formula, have no testing, a single tire etc. But all that makes the teams spend more on things away from the track to speed up the car. Not to mention they have more than double the races and seem to be expanding. Hopefully the wec is a bit more concerned about the little guy than what f1 has been. |

They are not kept "on the LMP1 program", they are kept within Audi Sport, and Audi itself. As Audi tries to position itself in the premier category, imagine the damage from them letting go 200 of their top engineers. Maybe not in layman's PR terms, but for the employees. I for one would expect my employer not to have me suffer for their mistakes, or, worse, scams. IMO, this is an - expected, and required - show of "class" from Audi. I'd expect nothing less. And this has nothing to do with "generosity", but more with an image damage of Audi, the employer, for prospective race-quality engineers.
