My reading of the article is that they're temporarily demolishing the grandstand above the pits, extending the pit building back a few meters and then rebuilding a less-steep grandstand on top of the newly-extended pit building.

i must admit the old grandstand is very steep, modern health and safety regs will make changing that a legal requirement eventually s=anyway

Mrs B99 really didn't like the steepness of grandstand and brings it up whenever the conversation regarding our next visit comes up! |

I sat in their regularly during the mid to late noughties and I always made sure I was completely awake and in possession of my faculties when moving around it!

I understand what you mean, but I don't write about which the circuit is the best, I write about the safety at Le Mans.

The Rolex gantry scandal
Wherever you are in the grandstands opposite of the pits, some of the garages are hidden by the new Rolex thing they have installed above the middle of the straight.
This is what I was afraid of. From the Lagache/Michelin you cannot see the Rebellion garages, from the Durand, you cannot see the Toyota garages. Last edited by PascaLM; 4 Jun 2018 at 17:30. |

I wonder if they make it less steep, what's there to see. At the moment it is not at all my favourite GS. Only for practice when you can look down to the pitstrait.

The big advantage of T34 currently is for spectators taking photographs. It's one of the relatively few places on the circuit where you can shoot the cars at speed with no fencing in the way. It also has the advantage of a different view due to it's height.

Are these new light posts on the Mulsanne, or already existing ones that are just shut down? Definitely do not want it to be more lit than it already is... so would be nice if I'm wrong

I can understand any increased lighting from the aspect of there being increased coverage of the track the past few years at night.
I can remember back in '06 the first time that I watched the race live on TV and watching '05 and '06 on You Tube that there was hardly any camera coverage after sunset beyond Tetre Rouge, though there was full track camera coverage at night a few years earlier. But then again, isn't that the point of the backlit car numbers and leader lights? |

The coverage for the "outer circuit" during Saturday night time was (re-) introduced for 2015. It still isn't there for any of Wednesday and Thursday running because they are saving money or don't want to drag the cameras away or something. It's probably also why Road to Le Mans gets no coverage for race 1, because they would "have" to use CCTV or onboard cameras to get any meaningful coverage for it...
Anyway hopefully those are turn off, if they indeed are new. On the image, the first light post on the chicane has been there for a long time but the others I don't remember seeing |

Has the first chicane been lit up that much before? I don't mind if there's lights there. I don't think it's that big of a deal. It would be if there was that much lighting on the straights, that would take away some of the spectacle of the cars in the night.

It gives us something to moan about though, doesn't it...…. And we're experts at that!

Yeah but sometimes moaning is well deserved, not cynical
There's one quaranteed light post in the chicane - the nearest one - that's been there for some time but the others in the picture, I don't know what they are Anyway looking at this video I don't see the posts on the right side of the straight in lead up to the first chicane, but perhaps I'm blind? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rd6gnNfxbl4&t=37s Hopefully we'll have business as usual there |

Sorry mate, I am just being cynical for the sake of it I know. If I could buy the ACO, the first thing I'd do is reinstate the run down to the Esses! There just seems to be so much negativity about on here at a time when I'm here to enjoy one of the most important parts of my year!

I think the EoT+BoP+Future debate just overshadows things and makes it look 'worse' than it actually is, even though 99,9% of the folks are extremely excited about the weekend, ie the best week of the year for sport anywhere

Went to the straight between Mulsanne and Indianapolis saturday morning, to sit on the banking, in the shade from the trees. Only to find all the trees were cut down! What was left was a sad sight of a lower laid part of land drenched in dark, muddy water, because the trees that normally soak up all the water had been cut! Was there a reason to destroy those trees? Were they sick?
