The bridge wouldn't be an issue. Singapore and Valencia both feature bridges, and we all know how high the standards are for F1 circuit safety.

Things have been very quiet rumour wise, not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
A short report in NZ that there may not be a round there this season, with the reason given that Hampton Downs may not be ready in time. In other words the sums do not add up in Taupo... http://www.radiosport.co.nz/SportsNe...aspx?id=158885 On a more positive note it seems that Team NZL will be appearing, there were earlier reports that Colin Giltrap might withdraw the team if two significant sponsors were not found. |

Some of you might find this amusing
http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/...t-supergp.html "the MORE STABLE A1GP". Never heard it described that before. |

What to think about: "cheaper" . I am sure that hosting F1 for the same amount of years would probably cost them a tenfold of what A1 is asking.

Depends on how much they have already paid A1. If they dont make it then it is an expensive exercise for nothing!

A ten date calendar has been approved by the FIA, only the first two events (Gold Coast and Assen) have been announced so far. Fingers crossed for the Dublin race!

one question on the dublin street race...
Any closing of roads for sporting events in britain (london marathon, birmingham superprix etc...) requires an act of parliement. Given that british/irish political history is intertwined, could this be an issue? Btw - the brummie superprix law is still valid, if anyone would like to bring it back. |

I'm pretty sure it only applies to the UK mainland. There are still events such as rallies in the UK that are on closed roads and not on the mainland (Manx Rally, Tour of Mull). There are a lot more closed road events in Ireland anyway, rallies, hillclimbs and the like. I'm sure it won't be an issue.

Good news that there is a solid calender in place and encouraging that they seem to be being cautious about announcing venues until they are nailed down. Hopefully we won't see the TBA and changes farce of last season.
Interesting that Surfers is the opening round of the season, I had assumed there would be a start in Europe at the beginning of October. |

Also remember that Asian Formula Renault published that they would be a support category at a Beijing street race at the beginning of October. Despite being in Beijing myself I am not sorry that it isn't happening.
Anyone care to speculate what the ten are then? Surfers, Lippo, Sepang, Zhuhai, Kyalami, Mexico City, Brazil, Brands, Algarve and Assen? |

I just had an email from A1 about pre booking tickets to the Assen race. The dates for the weekend are may 14-16 2010.

Silverstone? Please, no! It's probably likely to produce better racing, but it's a horrible place to spectate.

Brands can be a self important supercilious place, with the natural rudeness that comes from being near the capitol. I go to a lot of circuits, Rockingham, Silverstone, Brands, Thruxton, Snetterton, Donington... The rudest and unfriendliest spectators seem to be found at Brands (IMO) |

Always thought Brands was a much better place to spectate by far.Aintree had more atmosphere than Silverstone.Last time I was at Silverstone-for the F3000 International Trophy in 1988-I met the most unfriendly official I have ever encountered-he would not let me in the F3000 paddock-practice day lunch break!-swore I would never visit the place again and have not to date.

I've only been to Silverstone three times (vs numerous times to Brands) so maybe I'm not in a position to judge. But I didn't like the place, and that's why I rarely return, even though Silverstone is closer.
I found it windswept and bleak, with sparse & neglected facilities, too many grandstands/hospitality marquees restricting general admission viewing, and high fencing making it hard to take decent photos. No doubt if Brands ever hosted F1 again it would be similarly spoiled, but to me it's a better venue for spectators than Silverstone or Donington. You couldn't get much closer to the action than from many places on the GP loop or the inside of Druid's. You can really sense the history on the GP loop; somehow the lack of facilities there gives it an amazing atmosphere which contrasts with the stadium-like Indy circuit. I haven't really had bad experiences with spectators at any circuit, so that hasn't shaped my opinion. |

If 10 dates have been approved what are they. Also rumor on Friday that A1GP operations in the UK had been put into receivership and all London staff sent home! Anyone know more?

The Telegraph apparently knows a bit more, but reading between the lines perhaps Texiera is thinking about relocating (the race cars) somewhere else with a slightly different company. (Portugal perhaps?) He has some sort of tie in with that new circuit.

IF there is a season 5 and IF there is a date for it, then it appears Hampton Downs would be ready:

From the FIA website, the 2009 FIA International Series Calendar:
A1GP 2009 Gold Coast 300 - 25 Oct Lippo Village - 15 Nov Sepang - 6 Dec The 2010 FIA calendar has not been made available yet. I presume the remaining 7 rounds will all be in 2010 then. |
