To be honest, the ability to make the grids ready while the next races are ready has been part of rallycross for many years and is usually linked to the layout of the track and the pits.
Lydden is good as access and egress are separate, but the pits are a little bit of a minefield, especially at bigger events with open access. My reasons for not going were simple. I was seeing family in the area and would rather have spent time with them. Bigger grids would have persuaded me perhaps and a cheaper entry price. But these are age old gripes and little to do with the drivers and cars, more WRX, Lydden itself and British rallycross in general. The guys out there do as good a job as they can. I only hope we can get a few dates at Silverstone for BRC. AS that is a lot closer and the track looks great. |

[QUOTE=Hampton Caught;3727724]Some great racing on Monday[QUOTE] Agreed - there was some superb racing throughout the classes (and that's not always the case). Interesting - I've not seen the Silverstone track in person but from the photos I've seen it looks typically Silverstone (or more accurately - typically Stowe). Flat, devoid of character and limited in spectating options - I assume they'll be building some grandstands there so you'll actually be able to see something (although I suspect there's a lot of catch fencing to go up yet too). |

Regarding Silverstone, I think it might be OK. Yes Stowe currently is not an area that allows spectators, but I walked all over the recently laid circuit with bother to try and work out what was being planned.
I would guess temp stands will be bought in, or possibly inside Club. I am guessing they will use the Wing pits area and a fun zone nonsense thing. There is nowhere on the existing tracks that you can sit, so they will have to bring in bleachers or stands. And at the moment the edge of the track is lined with piles of soil that have been carefully formed to provide berms, as if they are staying not going? Not sure. It looks very temporary obviously and uses hardly any of the Stowe circuit, only the top hairpin and a few meters of straight, but seriously, if it is nearly all dirt (and it looks like Latvia type dirt not broken tarmac) it might be OK If you can see! I reckon a sort of Mettet type area somewhere safe, away, but ability to see the whole venue along Club straight sort of where the Wing pit access road is now on that bank. |

We spotted it as he came through the chicane across the finish line. So it had been going for a good minute or so. |

Just a quick one, eventually got round to sorting out my vid from Monday's action. I missed the last few finals as had to leave to catch train and not my best ever work, but if anyone interested:

I swear you just sit on the infield getting closer to the action, Steve. Then just take a few pics for prosperity.
But you get us VIP parking at the foreign tracks, so I'm OK with it! |

The plot thickens! Thanks for the clarification bigted, I was down the far end of the circuit during the final so my information was coming from the commentary. Perhaps I misunderstood what they were saying, but I'm certain they mentioned Heathcote in the holding area a couple of times!

I was down at Chessons and got the impression from the commentary that Heathcote was in the assembly area ready to go (and would have been out on the grid if Mark couldn't get the Xsara running).

Someone earlier in the thread was asked where some of the supercar drivers are, including myself.
Well my reason is pretty simple to be honest, as most people know i support both british and btrda championships and have done for many years, it's just a case of time (or lack of) for me. As some of you will know i having a very young family these days, i'm crazy busy with work / travel and i had a lot date clashes with work commitments in 2017 with the British Championship. I'm also a privateer and do all my own work, so if if i don't have spare time to the work on the car, I can't go racing. So basically I will still be racing in 2017, and still using the trusty Subaru, but from a championship point of view i will be mainly with the BTRDA this season, as there is only 3 race weekends in the year for my class, so i can fit that into the personal calendar. You will probably see me at the Croft for the British & Grand prix weekend too, and maybe another meeting later in the year + other motorsport activities / demo's etc. Si Last edited by sihorton; 24 Apr 2017 at 09:26. |

Nice to read you're still out this year Simon, shame we won't see you at Lydden!
Not my most successful outing, but a few pictures from Round 2... ...and a few more here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/229616...57681180252400 (And yes, I missed all the cars on fire!) |

Oliver Bennett's Fiesta was parked in the assembly area for a long time so I wonder if the commentators thoght his car was Nathan's waiting to go in the final? Both white supercars? Just a thought!
Good to have an update from you, Simon. All the very best for 2017 to you, both on and off the track. Cheers, Steve |

The retros also looks to be a bit of an Escort fest! There are some rally cars in amongst that lot. No sign of any 6R4's or RS200's though |

I noticed it was a bit of an Escort-fest as well: still, if we get to see a few of them sideways then it could be entertaining viewing! |

Well - some great racing throughout the classes today. Warren Scott looked impressive all day and took a well deserved win in the Supercars, Ovenden was the class of the field in supernational (and that Clio sounds great doesn't it?). I should apologise to Mr Ewin - it was going so well until we discussed reliability at lunchtime what was it? Propshaft?
Glad to see Todd Crooks get out of the car after his horrific looking accident, that was a biggie. Also really feel for Jason Chidwick - rolling the car on his debut - and I know he was very tight on budget building the car so that's a real kick in the teeth. A few piccies attached (David - by way of apology a shot of you leading the pack )..... |

Bert, was there too today.
The thing with Jason was they also dropped it off the lifter onto its nose while trying to get it onto the lowlader! So it was likely even more damaged. Some of the recovery today was pathetic, water truck fell off the tractor, tow rope snapped twice, car ran into the back of a tow car!! The track prep was OK< but the hole on the way into the chicane was getting dangerous for the more road based cars. And the usual punctures, but most f that seemed to be driver inflicted But that aside a very good day, some great racing, Bristow is worth the money on his own as is the Polish lad in the Saxo. Supercar was quick, and decent, the new lads really are now pushing the old guard like Godfrey to the side a little on some tracks. Scott was excellent. Retros was decent too, no 4wd was not a bad thing. Shame Jos had such a tricky day, car looks great. Very hot, but a great day chinwagging with lots of folk as usual. And wasn't it a joy to hear Arthur on the comms for a bit, sounds like he is recovering from the big C nicely and was very forthright on IMG and especially Silverstone which was music to my ears!! One question, did anyone see the half finished Mk2 in the retro tent up the hill? Looks like someone is thinking about a Schanche Zakker replica? Anyone any clue? |

Well I had a bit of a nose about it but I can't provide any more information I'm afraid. It's some way off being ready but looks like it'll be good fun when it's done. |

Agreed, it was never likely to be making a comeback even so! But dropping it was not clever, and the water cart! Blimey, so heavy it could have rolled onto the track!
SS1600 seems on the up over here after being poorly supported for a while, the Minis seem to be getting better numbers too and are indecently quick for largely standard cars. Some great comments from the commentator aswell saying why BTRDA is not here etc, clearly slightly barbed comments. But you get his drift. Mk2 does look very basic, not much in there, maybe an engine, but looked quite old inside as if it was being built up from an old shell. |
