I'm not concerned about the grid's diversity. The big question is how many entries DTM may attract. If it's at least 20 cars then I'm sure there will be quite a few different brands and teams. Seeing Abt, Rosberg already confirmed with talks about Rast, Muller, van der Linde and now having Red Bull committed (in whatever form) I hope for a good and interesting field of teams and drivers.

It's not related to this but adrian newey used to drive a lot of racing ferrari's in his amateur racing experiences

Yet they brought more drivers to F1 than any other team

and they often give drivers second chances, in F1(Gasly,Kvyat), or in other motorsports like they do with Albon here

And at a top level of any sport it's asked you perform, or else you're out , would Mercedes have stuck with Bottas if he had finished 7th in the WC with just 2 podiums? I don't think so

Nice to know Albon will continue racing in another series. Was going to say he's taking after his father going into Touring Cars, but then remembered that DTM is switching to GT cars this year

Gasly didn't get a second chance, he was demoted to tororosso after 2019 summer break and it's unlikely he will get back to RB in the future despite a great 2020 season. This dtm program is the same limbo where Albon will stay for a while since he couldn't come back in tororosso/AT because of Tsunoda backed by honda. And then you're comparing two extremely different situations... after 2016, mercedes is definitely happy to have a Barrichello-like driver who will never be a serious threat for Hamilton

How many reached F1 by the junior programmes of the other teams?
Wehrlein was dumped very quick by Mercedes. Same for Vandoorne at McLaren.

They DID give Gasly a second chance, he is still at Alpha Tauri isn't he?

You have to give RB credit, at least recently they have made efforts to assist drivers they drop for around a year after or so

And 4-5 years ago they wouldn’t have given gasly that second chance at ALPHA TAURI

That's a bit Pot calling Kettle black.

What has McLaren done?
Just as much as Red Bull has done for Liuzzi, Doornbos, Hartley, Alguersuari, Bourdais or Vergne after dropping them?

They (RB) have certainly been nice to some of their ex-drivers, but others have been dropped like a stone.


The same goed for the ex Red Bull juniors. Some achieved a nice carreer THANKS TO Red Bull. Some achieved a nice carreer DESPITE Red Bull.
Some disappeared from the radar altogether. Hard to tell if they would have been better off without Red Bull or not.

Doornbos?

you obviously did not see him race in Champcar?



Liuzzi became Force India testdriver imediately after Toro Rosso, did not need help with that, Bourdais became a factory Peugeot driver in LMP1, did not need help, Vergne was signed to drive FE for Andretti directlty after F1, did not need help, Hartley also went to FE and WEC Toyoya LMP1 directly after F1, did not need help, wich leaves Alguersuari who did 46 races for Toro Rosso but never impressed ebough to find employment elsewhere, also did not impress when he got a chance in FE

Red Bull get a bad rap. The truth is they do more for their juniors than anybody else.

Pretty much everybody else just gets to pay for the privilege to start with, although some RB juniors brought money too.

Quite a big blow for DTM, I'd really hoped for at least two Lambos from them. But having such a wide programme in GT it was impossible to commit to another series.
And ADAC GT is simply cheaper.
I fear these factors may really hinder entries in the DTM.

10 cars confirmed so far.

GTWC only has a handful of cars confirmed for the season, British GT only has a handful of confirmed cars so far, the new GTWC Australia has none, GTWC America has a couple, GT Open has none.

It’s safe to say it’s far too early to tell who is going to have a decent grid or not this year.

I can’t imagine the DTM in its new format will have less than the number of class one cars it had last year.

If it can must 18-20 cars with professional drivers then it’s good news.

Remember the two confirmed drivers so far are Red Bull drivers, and 2 of Audi’s former DTM works teams have confirmed cars. And remember as with all series, announcements don’t reflect confirmed entries, as it’s down to the teams when they decide to share their plans

As with every series, I’m sure announcements will pick up now the Christmas break is done and dusted, granted COVID may be affecting some plans still this year

Red Bull is reportedly going to race two Ferraris in their DTM campaign, although it's still not certain which team will run the programme.
Nick Cassidy is linked with being a substitute driver for Albon.

Nick would be a good choice. He's supported by Red Bull, he raced a lot of different cars.

But Ferrari? Why? 488 Evo is, well, meh, just like original 488 GT3

don't know if redbull will handle dtm with a own work team or will hire a third party, but as far I remember the only german team using 488 is rinaldi racing

It doesn't have to be a German team does it?
Kessel runs a bunch of Ferrari's and they are Swiss.

And there will be another German team running Ferrari's: Phoenix will operate the Wochenspiegel Team Monschau 488GT3 in ELMS.
