Trackside, I didn't enjoy those classic races much. Some rich rich businessmen driving some amazing cars, but never above 3rd gear. Whilst Darren Turner drove off into the distance. I don't expect them to be ragged, but it was always a disappointment hearing the cars drone by rather than scream.

Has anyone here stayed at the Bathurst Goldfields Cabins? They're just off Forrests Elbow. Just wondering if track access will easy from that side of the track?

Taking the subject slightly off-topic, when do they give out the dates for this meeting?

Because I want to know which week-end it will be in 2018. Because hopefully I can be there.

In recent years the dates have been announced within a couple of weeks upon completion of the event, however this year it took a few weeks longer.
Would be a safe bet that the 2018 event should be on one of the first 2 weekends in February.

I just booked a room at the Goldfields on the outside of the Elbow, the lovely Hayley says they've got their own gate to the top of the mountain, so that suits me!

$250 per night for the first 2 people, $50 extra pp after that, I think they can do 4 per room. If the Mrs doesn't come, I'm happy to share

Bugger. 2 nights could be justified. Not sure about 3

But first, the 6 hour.

All booked, ready to go, counting down the days.

Anyone else going?

Just booked accommodations. First visit to the B12 - bucket list stuff. Will need to do some research to know how to navigate the event and the grounds, but really looking forward to finally getting there.

You've picked a good one to be your first as it promises to be a great event with the new models available. Any questions, I'm sure that we can help you out.

Thanks much. My biggest questions at this point are the ability to walk around the track and find photo spots. Not sure what fencing/restricted areas there are and where you need a special pass to access. I'll likely have more, but that's one of the key questions to figure out how to actually get around the track to see the fun.

You can basically walk from the exit of the Cutting to the outside entry of Forrests. Bottom of the track is basically entry of the Chase to about halfway up Mountain Straight. I would advise having a vehicle handy if you want to go from top to bottom.
You're gonna have a blast mate, it was my first time this year, and I was blown away the whole time. See you there!

Also, definitely do the track walk on Thursday evening. That was one of my favourite parts of the weekend. Do not wear jeans and casual shoes tho. That's a bad call.

We stayed there, for a couple of the FOSC Easter meetings. That's a while back now, and it may have changed, but the accommodation was pretty basic and from memory the food was "wholesome" rather than "fine dining". However, sleeping four per room means that the daily rate was 4/5 of stuff all, and we went back for a second helping the following year. There was also plenty of communal space.

As you will appreciate, as bunkhouse accommodation, you will be sleeping in single bunks one up one down, a pair against each of the side walls and a narrow corridor about the width of the doorway between them. From memory, we lived out of our bags, there was no wardrobe or similar. Not a lot of room for partying, but as we were running a few cars in the meetings all we were interested in was how many Zs we could push out before the alarm went off ...

We were interested in paddock access for the cars, so can't comment on spectator access.

Haha, and I thought I was getting such a good deal on that chair!

I've given myself an extra day this year to get myself organised once I arrive. Should be getting into Bathurst around 6pm Wednesday, so Thursday will be a nice easy day spent gathering all the required equipment from around town.

Cheers for that. By the sounds of it, they're putting me into the motel part of the complex, but either way I'm not worried. Would've just stayed in the campground, but can't be bothered with all the life admin of travelling internationally with camping gear!

In a few weeks when I refurbish my website I will have a photography guide for Mount Panorama for the general punter if that helps?
