The race its self was solid when it was actually green. No idea how much time was spent under yellow but id be surprised if it wasn't over 90 minutes in total. So many SC periods which took FOREVER. So much contact through the race too, didnt go down well on Twitter. Shame really since the entry was great.

Yeah it was a good race, marred by incident. SRO aren't to blame for driver brain-farts, they already have enough blame for the archaic FCY -> SC procedure without having to apportion it where it isn't needed.

But speaking of officiating, it isn't only Blekemoolen that has been left perplexed. This is the first time I cam remember SRO's stewarding being openly called into question by multiple drivers/teams since the early Blancpain days. It's not going to help their Stateside push if this persists.

In some cases (not all) they definitely are to blame. SRO is the literal gate keeper for who's allowed into the race and who isn't. In order to keep the grid from being too small they (and other series these days) allow people who really aren't qualified to be out there, to race.

It's a self-fulfilling prophecy because then other people see how low the standards can be and how high the repair bills can be and stay out of the series -- reinforcing the grid size problems.

If they had enough GT3 cars the issue would solve itself. It's not even to say that the GT4 cars are all weapons its just that the speed difference on a fairly small track with long straights followed by flowing corners where a GT3 can't easily pass a GT4 causes lots of dives. I know it didn't look like driving a GT4 in that race would of been fun. I lost count of how many times I saw a GT4 get run into the grass from a GT3 dive in the last part of the track where I was. I'd love to see it become GT3 only in the future if they could bring in 30-35 cars. They weren't extremely far off from that this season. That would solve a lot of (not all of) the problems.

I think the 2021 race had enough GT3 cars to justify leaving out the GT4 cars.

I agree. A separate race could be organised for GT4 if there was enough demand. I suspect there would be because for an amateur GT4 owner/driver it must be pretty intimidating to share a grid with a load of pro/semi-pro GT3 cars so their own field might be more appealing.

You are probably right, I wouldn't be surprised if there ended up being more GT3s at Indy than the total grid size will be at Kyalami. I believe they had mid 20s back before COVID started. I remember it being a pretty good race despite that grid size and I think Indy could be as well.

They were down to run in the SRO GT2 race at Paul Ricard a few weeks ago, but a number of the team went down with the Covid lurgy and the entry was pulled.
