Exit Pouhon, million miles from the track Tim.
I wondered if you even noticed me in the morning in the paddock, you looked that bad. Well you quite often do, but this was criminal. You must have really felt bad. Shame I didn't have more time. |

I did notice you in the paddock but just gave a general grunt of a "hello" to everyone who was there, then I think I had to go back to the toilet.

Thanks - looks like I'd have had a good burn up with the Corvette and the Camaro..
Also noticed an RX7(!) - any idea which generation that was? (1, 2, 3) S. |

Thanks for that Moosehead. We didn't get any proper programme, so some cars were missing on our list, hence I wasn't sure.
There are some pictures on the Spa website. http://www.spa-francorchamps.be/gfx/...summerclassic/ |

Ayethankyou.
That would be an "FD" 3rd Gen unit to those in the know. 91 On. Twin turbo. Quite a machine, and a pleasure to the eye if I may say. S. |

Yep, twin turbo (probably std spec though I imagine but you can crank them up north of 450bhp.
FB is my shape (avatar) - came with a 12A (2.1) or 13B (2.6) normally aspirated motor on carbs (12A) or carb/Fi (13B) to suit various international markets. FC is the middle one - slightly wider: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...8/Fc3sS5NA.jpg That ran a single turbo unit. FD (above) is the twin turbo unit. All a very rough guide, many more variants produced to mix and match across the world. S. |

Is'nt the single turbo meant to be the hot set up and the twin turbo a small and large unit to try to get around turbo lag in a road car situation? I have seen modified cars advertised with the twin turbos replaced by a single, I must say I do like the shape of that later model car.

Its certainly simpler and cheaper, but the big power units are the twin units. Single turbo takes you to 450. A lot are 500plus now..

The RX7 in question (FD) is run in CSCC Future Classics by Giles Groombridge & Dave Ashford from Brunswick Motorsport, I think. Its runs by invitation, I assume, as its not a pre 1990 car. I think they have done VLN & 'Ring 24 hr events in it in the past.

I have actually driven and worked on one of those. I used to work for Mullard Vehicles in the 60's and thats the sort of stuff they bought, I road tested one of those down a disused railway spur road that went from Edgware to Mill Hill, what a job I never had so much fun working before or since and drove and worked on anything from Austin champs, Daimler Scout cars Bedford and Austin trucks with crash gearboxes, huge Scamell tank transporters and built my first V8 as they had loads of Ford F100 trucks which went on the become MFI. The perfect job for a young aspiring mechanic and the guys there taught me lots and the beauty was if you buggered something up you just went to their private scrap yard and grabbed another bit off a wreck!
Funny enough on a historic note I was chatting to Celia Stevens about her race Peerless and said actually I have worked and indeed finished assembling one of those while at Mullards as they bought the salvage at auction from the remanants of the company and the governer was using a the red one I worked on as a company car. I think she thought I may have been spinning a line but the next time I spoke with her she said guess what, just spoke with a friend of mine who has one and the first name in the logbook was Mullard Vehicles of Edgware! |
