According to tonight's MeN, it appears that Wilson Security is threatening to withdraw from V8Supercar if the WA round is not reinstated.
The story goes from CEO Mr McMellan, Wilson Security sources part of their budget from their WA unit, and without this contribution, the sponsor is unable to participate at the level they currently enjoy Mr McMellan suggests too that Westrac CAT, and Komatsu would likely also be similarly inclined, even though it is yet to be confirmed. Is this real, or a way for Wilson Security to exit gracefully? |

Is Barbagello Raceway still in talks with V8SA about the races there this year, or is it a goner?

Isnt Mr McMellan the CEO? You might expect that he should have discretion over marketing funds...

And as the CEO, he must feel that not going to WA has made the V8's a much less attractive proposition. Otherwise he wouldn't have spoken up about it. Well done TC. Making it even harder to get sponsors !!!!!!

& reduced team budgets too Trev. The WA spend driven out of motorsport into AFL, A League or Super 15.

GTR in the article it states that 30 percent of their revenue comes from WA, It also states that WA is their most important market. If you were in charge of the finances would you want to turn your marketing budget away from your key market?
It is very interesting to see today that cochrane has at least admitted that WA is a very important market for the V8's and thier sponsors. Maybe a few more of the catagories major sponsors have quietly expressed concern to VESA over the dropping of WA from the series. As has been previously stated there is a LOT of differing products ( bourbon , mining equipment etc ) where WA is the most important market to advertise in due to the higher disposable incomes over here. What about companies like HSV and FPV not sure if it is still true but WA used to have the highest % per capita of ownership for HSV's and FPV's. What kind of an effect will it have to thier brand? |

It seems strange and a bit of a coincidence is that this is the first time V8SA have publicly responded to the Waneroo press release and it comes on the day of reports that v8 sponsors will potentially pull the pin based on no WA round. |

Will Davison slammed into the pit entrance on some left over fluid from the todd kelly incident. a big tractor tyre was about all that seperated officials from the car

Ah, right, the one where Davison didn't properly slow down under yellow flags as a result of which he went off on fluids left over from an impact caused by someone failing to slow down properly under yellow flags and hitting a stationary car.
A bit tough blaming that on the pit lane, all completely avoidable in my opinion. |

Peckstar mate where you at the event?
Will had a front right puncture and had no steering and that is why he ended up hitting the wall in pit lane. This was after hitting the back of kelly's crapadore trying to avoid that accident. The fluids are a nice excuse! |

Peck could not expose the hypocrisy more succinctly.
With Mr Whittaker in the new seat, VESA can mount another attack on the taxpayers purse. At least its transparent ... |

thanks guys, three different interpretations of an incident which all prove the issue. the pits are a serious issue at barbagello, it doesnt matter who the car slammed into the tyre, its the fact that cars come off the race track into pit lane at speed because there is no real pit entry, the pit entry is part of the run off for the corner and cars are regularly in the pit entry as part of the race (by pit entry im referring to the part where the cars come off the track and enter the pits)
the pit lane is narrow and not suitable for a series that completes pit stops under race conditions and the pit exit is dangerous as it brings cars out in a dangerous position on the track (although this is the least of the three issues) the pit lane is dangerous, the pit entry is dangerous and the pit exit is dangerous. they need to be fixed I find it sad, that some people who claim to be marshalls and apparantly care about health and safety fail to see the problem at barbagello. |

That said, Barbagello and the WA Government has agreed to put $5million into the facility to improve the pit lane. It will be fixed and in due time however this wasn't enough for V8SA. |

yes they said that 6 years ago, still waiting, they also said it again 5 years ago, 4 years ago, 3 years ago, 2 years ago, 1 year ago and even 1 month ago, still waiting.
I dont need to exaggerate in this case, incidents happen multiple times each race. |
