Word has it that Erebus might go back to it's Stone Brothers' roots with running Fords.

AA suggests this week that Castrol shall replace Clipsal as the naming rights partner of the season opening Adelaide event...

Very interesting - they have been splashin around the cash on a few cars lately - and there's no doubt the amazing click that Clipsal has had.

HDT, Perkins, Longhurst, Murph, Steve Richo, probably more - almost constant involvement in the sport.

While good that someone is stepping into the gap... is a motor industry sponsor really the sort of thing they would want?
Clipsal was much more desireable i would have thought as a non-motoring brand name for a broader appeal. |

castol would be a good sponsor for the event the other link I've heard was a convenience store chain called On The Run that are developed by ExxonMobil

The event will be called "Clipsal" for at least another 5-10 years anyway, the Gold Coast is still referred to as "Indy" in most cases and an Indycar hasn't been there for nearly a decade. |

Lowndes waiting for contract negotiations begin with 888. Might get interesting if 888 decide to go back to two cars..

From a merchandise sales perspective, Mr Lowndes is a bran name youbseem to be able to take to the bank. Doesn't cover up on-track performances less sparkling than his teammates.. Who might replace Mr Lowndes? |

I'd have thought the only reason the "TeamVortex" brand exists is because of Lowndes.
No Lowndes no third car was the read I got? I find it highly unlikely Lowndes moves anywhere next year though. |

Works out well for 888. If the interest in Lowndes is minimal, 888 would be able to offer a new deal at greatly reduced rate and keep it's popular cash cow.

Not sure that holds up with the big Caltex signs on the RBHRT cars...

No, Caltex left the sport completely for several years after ceasing the SBR sponsorship.

They went away for a few years after 'Chuckles' Bond retired too.

caltex was a secondary sponsor of triple 8 in 2015 (and for few years before that) the 2012 vodaphone car had some level of Caltex sponsorship, but was quite minor
It pulled out of sponsoring the series in 2007 |

But will they still fund the Team Vortex car if Lowndes leaves?

I feel if lowndes leaves that team will have big problems, we may say that a sponsor will stay for Whincup but that may not be as true as we think. I know with Van Gisbergan he had to be put in with Jamie, it was set to be Lowndes/ Whincup and then SVG, promote SVG to join Whincup when Lowndes retired but due to no sponsor wanting to back SVG they had to have him with Whincup. Lowndes is the attraction for sponsors and Roland should know it. The amount of sponsors that would leave would be a disaster for Triple 8. Even with Red Bull and Holden they still would struggle to stay with Penske you would think
