In the last month I have learned some very interesting history of my car (pictured above) from the 1992 season. It turns out to be Emanuelle Pirro's 1992 DTM car, he drove this car in all of the 1992 races except race 2 at Zolder and Diepholz (due to damage in race 1) I have just received the original carpass which confirms this.

If it sells at 130,000 euro that converts to $180,000 Aussie. With a 6 speed box in it now which was not homologated until 1988 adds to the cost to restore it to correct spec. which was 1987 only as a Group A car so the 6 speed would have to go.

I don't want to clutter this thread with a restoration project.(if you want to see the restoration, PM me and I will show you where you can find a lot more)

Anyway, here is the story of this car, as best as I know. Chassis #214 was built in 1992 by Bigazzi, and driven by Emanuelle Pirro for most of the 1992 DTM.At the end of 1992 it was sold to Logamo (Tony LOnghurst/Frank GArdner/Paul MOrris) and the spec. changed slightly to allow it to compete in the 1993 ATCC. (ABS removed, 330mm front brakes/4 pot cals, steel bonnet, glass side windows) It was driven by Paul Morris in the whole of the 1993 ATCC, then driven at Bathurst 1993 by Paul Morris and Joachim Winkelhock. Incidentally, Winkelhock set a qualifying time of 2.15.90, making it the fastest ever qually time for a BMW around Bathurst. In 1994 it was converted to a 2.0L car and sold to Mark Adderton and raced in the Australian Manufacturers championship (Supertourers) for the next couple of years. It last raced in 1998. I am restoring it back to 1992 DTM specification.

I have very few pictures of the car in 1993, however here is another.

Thanks Andrew, finding about the 1992 history was a bit of good luck - although I knew it was a 92 car, when I bought it I thought it was an unused spare with no history in that year. Through a friend in Germany, who managed to locate the original logbook for the car, I found out it was Mr Pirro's "works" car, and he competed in all of the 1992 DTM in this car, except for two races in the "T" car. So that was quite a bonus! And the car has just been reunited with its original logbook for probably the first time in 19 years! BMW Klassik were quite interested to find out where the car had ended up too.

Sorry to jump in, slightly off topic, but I was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction to find FIA Homologation spec for the E30 M3, 1989 ETC?

I've been round and round the FIA site, but I can't crack it!

Many thanks

Hi Christian, I guess you need this. You can do a search on the doc but to save you that Group A M3 is homologation number 5327, 01/03/1987. Guess MSA will be able to provide copy, or try googling in case on t'internet

Another Championship !

I'm proud to declare that the E30 M3 can claim yet another championship!
If you've read this thread you came by the ex Rainer Vink group A Hillclimb car..
Well, we campaigned it for the first time during the latter part of 2010 and got some problems out.
This year we did the whole season of the Youngtimer Touring Car Challenge and ended up first overall!
Races where at Hockenheim, Zolder, Le Mans Bugatti circuit, Spa and Zandvoort and I've put onboards on my youtube channel of allmost all the races with a litlle report of the weekends in the description.
The car proved to be quite fast for an E30, even more when you consider that it's now an 2.3l. We got some improvements in our minds for over the winter to get laptimes even further down, but we do keep the car totally original as it is.
Managed a 2.42 at Spa
Many thanks still for all the people getting the history of our car right!

Maybe I am a bit annoying as I seem to be the only one left posting here, please forgive me!
We now have a website, www.botspeed.eu
The english version will become available in the coming weeks.
Gradually the full history of our Group A M3, with movies and photos will be put online here.
