The usual suspects at the top again - Peterhansel is incredible - so consistent on such a tough event.

The Toyotas put in a fantastic challenge to the fast but fragile Peugots towards the end and the team play with Cyril Dupres supporting Sainz and Peterhansel proved invaluable in the win for Peugot. Incredibly arduous event particularly for the privateers, once again Lyndon Poskitt finished 2nd in the Malle Moto class to become the peoples champion.

The 2019 Dakar Rally is at risk, as Chile and Bolivia have declined to host stages. Peru and Argentina are willing to host some stages, but there's no available route between them.

Toyota will feature Nasser Al-Attiyah, Giniel de Villiers, and Bernard Ten Brinke.

Last but not least, Sébastien Loeb will drive a privateer Peugeot.
