a bit of a carry over from the RB thread regarding Renault's criticism of RIC and his leadership role...

flashforward as few years and we see Ocon quite happy to see Alonso gone as he had, in Ocon's opinion, pretty much checked out leaving Ocon to do 98% of the work.

now i can understand Alonso's lack of motivation at Alpine particularly at the end there, but surely this is also in and of itself indicative of a team that has lacked any capable leadership from the front office for years and years. not any nice things to say about Flav, Cyril was an absolute failure, and not to mention that their corporate leadership under Ghosn turned out to be an international crime thriller!

if one agrees that leadership flows from the top on down then im not sure where anyone in this team can justify their problems/lack of results is the product of there being a lack of leadership down the line!

I think Occon is massively overvaluing his own worth in general, so I'm not sure how much that number is to to be trusted.

Piastri is an unknown, and until put through the meatgrinder we don't know how well he will fare. What is known is that Gasly is not a driver that drives with his head, and he is known to cave in mentally like he did at RBR. So far Piastri looks better, but if Otmar knows more than we know, Gasly is not a great model to compare to.
