Turbo power in effect. The turbocharged Mazda is doing better on the restarts than the Porsches. Because of the altitude.

Penske doing some strategic decisions. Both cars have pitted and might only need 1 more pitstop during this race.

According to Hindy the 2 Audis are the 2006 cars. The 2007 cars are being prepared for Le Mans. This may explain why their pace has not improved so much compared to Porsche.

Penske also has superior race pace. Both cars into 2:22 so almost 2 sec faster than the rest.
Audis have to do their pitstops earlier than LMP2. Can someone explain why the Audi pitstops are 20 sec slower than the earlier pitstop (during caution)? Last edited by gwyllion; 20 May 2007 at 00:17. |

Spoiler: The winning Porsche Spyder really slowed the last 2-3 laps like something was wrong-it had run conistant 2:25-2:26, but the last lap was a 2:39! What happened? They could've really blown it if those last couple of laps were much slower.

I think they were running pretty low on fuel considering their pit strategy...

Now watching the race on Motors...what was that security guy thinking? Preventing the Andretti Green Racing Acura to get to their paddock for repairs by throwing himself in front of the car?

I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting tired of the LMP2 cars having such an easy chance for overall wins. I just find it weird that LMP675 cars were supposed to challenge for overall wins, but rarely did, and that LMP2 cars arent' supposed to challenge for overall wins every race, but do anyways.
Add to that the fact that the RS Spyders aren't running the E10 fuel-they still run on normal gasoline. Wasn't IMSA supposed to mandate E10 for all gasoline fueled cars by now? It was fuel milage that cost Audi the win. I have nothing against LMP2s winning 1-2 races a year, but having such an easy time of it, and it being the same make/model of car, and the same team, makes me wonder if the fact that Penske being basically a factory team should lead to LMP2's being pegged back somehow. Either give the R10's some fuel tankange back, and the Creations a larger air restictor, or reduce the LMP2's fuel tankage by 3-5 liters(especally those that run on pure gasoline), or enforce the ACO mandated 5% smaller air restrictor. Even with the smaller restictor, the Porsches were just as fast at Sebring as with the '06 spec restictor. Remember, the Audi R8 went faster year after year at most ALMS track even with a 10% smaller restictor. Why can't Porsche and Acura do the same? |
