Impressive time.
And at least Rebellions upped up the speed to "normal realm" from embarrassing FP1. |

I think we all got that ...
But as a marker to put down at the beginning of a practice session beating last year's pole is a pretty good one. Weather permitting these Porsches should be setting rather fast times tomorrow. |

Audi better be sandbagging, as well as Toyota, because otherwise I think that the investment in their new cars is for naught against Porsche's year old machinery.

weird that audi were the only ones claiming they'd be even a bit faster than last year (porsche were saying "almost as fast" as last year) and yet porsche has already gone faster than last year's pole and audi are about 2 seconds down from their race pace last year.

Regarding the entry list. I say over 30 cars is fine, however I have to admit, I was expecting a bigger overall GT entry. Is there any reason for so few GT cars?

Porsche already broke the qualifying time record on their first laps out. Toyota and especially Audi haven't been impressive in terms of performance so far.
And that's even knowing that Porsche's quick times were a qualifying run sim. |

Looks like Audi is once again using the time for race simulations instead of qualifying runs.
@kvenom: German magazine Sport Auto reports the same in their newest issue. |

The full season entry list is artificially restricted to be around ~35, so there couldn't have been much more even if the interest theoretically was there. And as for one-off guest entries, they're just not interested (and also artificially wouldn't able to be score points and would be shown invisible in series results), and the rest are in ELMS which has sadly been separated from the global series for few years now.

audi managed 1:40s in last year's race. if they're two seconds down from that, while porsche are at least as fast as last year, i'm afraid that's far from enough.

They better be doing race sims, since the cars showed at the Prologue that they should be if anything faster than last year, especially since Audi and Toyota should have more development potential than the Porsche has.

Well, you have to take into consideration that both Audi and Toyota have new cars ,which they are still getting speed out of ,,,Porsche has a sorted out, refine machine ...but I wouldn't take anybody out in the second practice session ..let's wait until quali ..

All three still have two months to figure things out, and the aero and other bits and pieces will get changed in between, so I'm not worried over any theoretical "gaps" between Porsche and the other two. All I can say is that the overall pace is impressive, all things considered.

audi and toyota seem to be very close in terms of lap time. they continuously swap that 3rd position. maybe if we ignore that 1:39, we get a better picture of the actual gap between the cars in "race trim" (presuming that 1:39 was a quali sim): 1:41.344 for porsche, 1:41.454 for audi, 1:41.523 for toyota. which is basically nothing!

Good ol' Ed Brown setting laps 12secs down on the leading LMP2. Oh well, he pays the bills.
