Project Le Mans wrote that the car will be at PLM with a conventional powertrain and will be equiped with the hybrid system during the winter.

At this point any P1 on the grid is a welcome site regardless of powertrain! but it would be interesting to see the hybrid

Outside chance of another Zytek? Amongst the cars testing at Snetterton yesterday was a white Zytek. According to DSC, it's a new chassis, so far without a confirmed customer, doing development work. Interesting comment from LNT's Richard Dean at the end of the report though:

This is shaping up to be the best sports car race (excluding Le Mans) in about 15 years...

Even just the Pugs vs. the Audis should be worth the price of admission!

I might go so far to say that the entry has better quality than Le Mans itself the last few years, with the exception of GT1. Certainly there hasn't been the quality of teams capable of challenging for overall victory at LM for years.

I've heard rumblings that there is in the works an effort to stream the missing portion of the TV broadcast on the net. Ala the live "Q"ing stream. So if it comes to pass it would be a bonus, as it would be with Hindy as the commentator!
It might behoove us fans to e-mail Speed via Marshall @ Marshall.Pruett@speedtv.com to express our wish for this to happen, along with the Petit/Laguna "Q"ing streams!!

It comes down to some sponsor paying for it to be. Hopefully someone steps up to the plate.

Acura or Audi or someone should be putting the money forward for it.

They can still show the potential sponsor(s) that there is interest in this if we e-mail them.

I appreciate the thought process.. but a few dozen, or even a few hundred emails are not going to impress anyone.

No Mansell-Chamberlain Petit entry--AutoCon bought the car from Chamberlain and will run it themselves with technical support from Hugh. Good on them. Drivers are Bryan Willman, Chris McMurry and Tony Burgess on Dunlops.

Aren't they just moving from one outdated car to another? Granted, I imagine the B06/10 might be sportier, but still.

Is it keeping the Turbo AER?

Same engine, but this is about the most developed non-Coupe Lola P1 car out there.

Autocon have never bought new cars...look at their last purchases - Dyson's old MG Lola, Creation CA-06...

But when did this transpire? And when can we expect official confirmation on that (probably never knowing Autocon and Chamberlain)

And then what is happening with Chamberlain???

Probably won't make Autocon any faster or slower but nice to see them get inside the ACO rules - something they have to do for next year, I think...

They would be better off buying a new car , instead of buying older chassis , and running it for a few years .

Also they would be better off sticking with Judd power . As for technical help , whats wrong with Intersport . Im sure tech helps comes as part of the deal , but Interesport do know the American tracks .

Honest ta god ..... Autocon can never seem to make up their minds .
People say the reason they are not at the top end of their class has to do with budget , but surely landing out for a new 2nd hand chassis every 6 months does dispose of wedge fast as does having to support and change your inventory too .

So they should depend on a competitior for setup info?
I'm sure if you were to pony up the funds for a new car they would surely accept the help. The fact is they are leaving a problematic 5 yr old chassis (just like intersport did) for a 2 yr old current rules chassis. I don't see where the logic fails in that.

Fair point about the tech backup ..... but I feel something other than a 4 year old Lola might better suit them , but Im sure they got a good deal anyway .....

What about a Pescarolo LMP1 , bound to be a couple of them about towards the end of the season .

Its a two year old chassis and Chamberlain hasn't run it much in '08.
In the USA a pescarolo isn't practical (or any faster judging from charouz performance in a lola last year). An Oreca-Courage is a better option but still not realistic to run in the states with Oreca just starting to repair the Courage brand. After a tough time with a small manufacturer (creation), autocon have opted for the safe route with Lola. Similar thinking to Intersport last year at about this same exact time period it seems.

It's not a B06, it's newer, but I'm curios as to how Marshall got his information.

Creation started off great in 2006 which is what enticed Autocon to look at the CA06/H, however with a lack of support and the inability to obtain spares the program could not move forward properly for the team.

Badger:
You answered your own question when you brought up the budget issue and then wondered why they buy a second hand chassis. It's a simple matter of economics. A new Lola will price out almost the same as an RS Spyder lease, and thats sans an engine. A used car with 2-3 races, being the most updated Lola spyder on the market, and having the most extensive spares and data package was the best choice given the circumstances. As for being a 4 year old car, the updates that have been made make it the newest car Autocon has probably ever had.

Buying a new Lola coupe and then outfitting it with all the bells and whistles is well north of $2 million, money which could be spent testing, entry fees, logistics. Essentially the B07 and B08 are nearly identical under the skin (and roof).

Non-english speaking manufacturers are out of the question because of the language barrier. It is difficult enough running a program let alone having to translate all communications between engineers, DAGs, team members, etc. etc.
The AER will be run unless the decision is made to go back to Judd after Petit.
