Dan Rear should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The Auger car, 1980 I'm fairly sure, was built on a T490/492,m but was only a 1300cc engine, BDA I presume, NOT a 2-litre Hart.

I agree with Dan the Auger car was only ever a 1300 BDA ?, i dont think it raced much away from Donnington either if i am correct.

Other than Tony Dickinson's, the 2 other well known Skoda special loons I can recall are the Alan Humberstone example, which may well have had a 2.0Hart (or was it BDG?) installation and might well have been Lola based. The other was Tom Shepherd's but that ran a smaller 1300 engine I think but i've got no idea what chassis that had?

Seems that all the 'evidence' points to my car being the Humberstane car with a Skoda body at first/Hart engine, and then it being re-built with the Doc Enderby replica Karmann Ghia body in pink and a 1300 bdh turbo engine which never raced, but went into storeage in Kent in a container till it re-surfaced in 2005 when the last owner bought it with knackered body.

Now:

Who sold it to Harry Humberston (Alan's dad)?

That is the next Big Question, and will get me to the original owner/spec and the chassis number!

Alternative is: Did the car never have a Hart after all?
Please keep trying for me!

When did Humberstone have a Skoda? I can't recall this one. Wasn't he out in a 2-litre Stilleto at one point, I think an ex-Mason/Bevan car, that was presumably based on a 1-litre car, and re-engined.

humberstone had 1300 bda Imp coupe space frame car late 1979/80 ish after he had been in a 1 litre Imp
tom shepard was maguire skoda
the ex mason bevan 2 litre imp ( ex dickenson 1300 car) went to paul H-H afterwards

the hart in lola chassi thig is what u have been told may have been the base car for teh Ghia body and NOT what humberstone was going to run
FYI hart bolt fitting to gearbox is same as bdg etc but i think its 1-2 inches longer?

This site implys that Dickenson had two cars, I do recal that he did not own the car he raced as it was sold from underneth him and he had to complete the series in a rented or borrowed car one year maybe 1980 or 81.

There are a few other skodas listed here as well, not much info in the chassis

tony dickinson cars he did own car 2 for sure a she bought t290 gp 6 car form LM in 1978 car sat in shed till 2 years ago and he had enough spares to build the skoda with the aid of mike pilbeam

car 1 ex chris meek 1974 alec poole 1975 and i do not believe it had hart motor it was BDG
car 2 was built around a T290 chassis and suspension NOT a S2000 T490 that car is now broken up chassis lying in a yard

I guess the referance on the racing70s site to a Skoda being based on T490 and powered by a Hart 420R has been taken from the Autosport 1981 season review were the Dickenson car is refered to as being based on a T492 Hart.

If historic source gets it wrong then that filters onto the web etc.

edit to say it was Sugden that had his car sold, not Dickenson. Wrong skoda!

I thought this trhread had gone dead ages ago!

Great additional background info.

My Lola is progressing quickly as a full hillclimb car now just to continue the colourful life it has led.
I have no further progress to its life pre 82 ish, but the rear chassis and tub has all manner of welds and holes and mods to it to show for the last years. The tub was modified with additional alloy sheet all foam filled for rigidity.

The car now has a 3200cc Porsche flat six and box sitting in the rear.
The original Lola gearshif mates perfectly, even the March F2/Atlantic fits and the driveshafts mate to the Porsche box after a little surprise or two...

I have located March uprights with caliper mounts and so the conversion goes on.

I am no closer to a chassis number however, and have given-up the chase.

Wow! Neat installation, but why the Porsche unit? Surely the lack of Over 2 litre Sports Libres is a problem in most speed event championships? Or maybe you are planning to run it in sprints?

I like big engined cars!

The class structure is not an issue, I'm too old now to want to make a mark, just to have a blast even in a class of my own. Barry Lines has sold the Pilbeam with the V8 so I may not be alone!

Also, I know these drivetrains well and it can be readily opened out to 350/400 bhp in 550Kg....

I hope to have it ready for June 2009 when there will be no rain.

Seriously why not have a go at a couple of sprints e.g. Colerne on August Ban Holiday Monday? You never know the Lola-porsche may be the ideal sprinting Sports libre!

Steve: Never have liked sprints, but too scared to admit to not liking high speeds as Driftwood will call me a coward again!

Mind you, perhaps the car will be so quick only a drop will get to me!

I wonder what the history of my chassis number free Lola was before 1983?

So let me get this straight , so as to avoid any confusion . A thread that started out about a Lola Sports 2000 chassis converted into a Special Saloon gets moved because of its Special Saloon content , only for the particular forum to be taken over by a discussion about toothsome items of confectionery from the late sixties / early seventies ? Wasn't there something from that era about Marianne Faithfull and a Mars bar ( so I have been told ) ?

Me , I reckon that The Drifter must have been on the receiving end of one too many clumps over the head from Doris's clipboard .
