Looks like I missed an entertaining session, I'll have to watch the rerun on the BBC.

Agree canamman. One of the best qualifying sessions for a few years. Some mixed up names up top that you'd have never expected. Kvyat really showed some talent. K-Mag too. Great to see some new names up there, even if the weather played a part in it. But that's when the talented drivers shine. And I will eat humble pie. I was one of those that had written RBR off for the start of the season. They've got form! Well at least Ricciardo showed what the car is capable of. Vettel struggled. So is it too early to agree with what most of the drivers have been saying? Vettel wins in a good car, but cannot muscle a bad car to the front? Going on todays performance, I think Alonso, Hamilton and Co might have been correct. Cannot wait for tomorrow's race! |

and a fast one at that
i haven't seen or heard any footage of new f1 yet, so i'm really looking forward to seeing it in the bbc highlights programme this afternoon. kvyat was always capable of producing some seriously silly pace, but he wasn't always very good at actual racecraft. it seems he's been learning that in gp3 so i'm really looking forward to how he brings it to jev, who is the master of racing the nuts off a car. ricciardo usually over-qualifies so i'd expect him to drop back a bit in normal racing conditions. lbr, we won't see lewis for dust tomorrow. yeah, i agree. i'm not sure he's the same kind of driving talent as the hamiltons and the alonsos. i don't doubt his ability to get a great finish out of it, but his ultimate pace in a car that isn't to his liking doesn't seem quite there compared to guys like ricciardo and the hamilton and alonso like you mention. |

Vettel will be hurt with the loss of trick diffusers. But he'll still be fine and today he had an engine hiccup which didn't help, even if it was an error that messed his lap up.

A little controversy(??). There are reports that Charlie Whiting has said the RB10's nose camera has been "cleared" to race, but since there is not a rear facing camera as the rules require, he will be looking at the issue again very soon.
So does this mean the RB10, as it is now, is illegal? If there's no rear facing camera as the rules say there must be, wouldn't that make the RB10 illegal? Still no word on any protests - as there were reports during pre season testing saying the McLaren rear suspension might be protested, and the lack of a turbo cover on the Ferrari might be protested by Mercedes and Renault. |

JJ Lehto said that Fernando Alonso is able to utilize the benefit of poor car better than his current team-mate. Lehto does not believe that Ferrari favoring Alonso.

I believe that McLaren's aerodynamic rear suspension has now been officially approved, whilst at Ferrari, the the matter of the turbine protection was resolved by them having to incorporate one in their final version of the power plant that was homologated a fortnight or so ago. In other words, they bowed to the pressure that they would be protested, and probably successfully so they capitulated.

Vettel had software issues confirmed Renault, affecting both power and drivability.
But what a fantastic start for the season, the conditions made it closer and Ricciardo, Kvyat and Magnussen were all impressive. Very happy for Ricciardo to do it at his home circuit on his first race with RBR, must be an unbelievable feeling. And surprised with RBR's pace, but I think the goal will still be finishing in the points. Ferrari was 1.5s off Merc and 1.2s off RBR, I think. Not sure if they messed up with tyre selection in Q3, I hope it was something like that. |

That was a pretty awesome Q3, and the cars look so much faster this season.
Nice to see them all going for it. Well done Ricciardo. |

That was the best qualifying session I've seen in a hell of a long time! Ricciardo and Magnussen really showed they deserves their seats today.
Shame for Bottas already having a 5 place grid penalty before the first race of the season |

The Australian Grand Prix will be shown Sunday, March 16, 1:30 a.m. ET or Eastern Time, live on NBCSN and NBC Sports Live Extra. Chicago is in the Central Time timezone or CT, which is an hour behind Eastern Time.

Also with all the focus at the front of the grid, I completely missed Chilton outqualifying Bianchi. It might be just a one off but who knows, Chilton might end up having the upper hand on Bianchi this season. |

Not long now.
I reckon it could be quite a race for all sorts of reasons. Hope we are not disappointed. |
