God let this be true!!! From Champweb.net:
Rumor: Mi Jack in LB posted on 03-05 18:46 A rumor surfacing recently is saying that the Mi-Jack Conquest Racing team may be part of Long Beach's season premiere and will announce Mario Haberfeld as one driver and possibly Townsend Bell as their second driver. |

Yes, I do remember T.O. 2002, but at least Bell is aggressive and quick and I would rather have a driver who was fast and a bit wild then a driver who was slow and clean most of the time....cuz once a slow driver, ALWAYS a slow driver!! Yes he made some mistakes, but he was a ROOKIE and do you think it's fair to judge him and his future based on that half season back in 2002!? Look how long it's taken Jourdain Jr. and Dominguez to come around....if we were as harsh on them as some (many) CC fans have been on Bell, then they should have been kicked out of this series along time ago!!! |

Many would say that my favourite driver Paul Tracy was one of the most reckless drivers of all time.....especially early on in his career.

Mags, do you feel that's there NO chance of Townsend ever changing and if he came back to the CCWS would he just be endangering his fellow drivers??

Mario Dominguez came around in one year, and Michel started performing as soon as he got to rahal. But Townsend Bell that seems a little to farfetched its the first time I've heard about, what about the rest of the drivers doing the out job looking for a ride shuffle. I'd think at least the people we've heard about would getb that seat.

I'd welcome him back. Agrressive means exciting, as long as he's learned to pick his chances carefully and be a bit more patient, he won't be too dangerous.

If he is packing sponsor $$$ I think any of us would welcome him back. I think he deserves more seat time no question he was fast. No doubt if he is in a car he will cause some trouble again and hopefully this time he will learn like drivers before him. PT was like a lighting bolt, you knew he could touch you the question being would he I remember his early years with Penske and the saying Paul the Wall.
Here is to TB and Dale Coyne Where or where is Memo? Last edited by racinthestreets; 6 Mar 2004 at 17:13. |

Memo is in SPEED World Challenge! I would rather he were in ChampCars though.
As for Bell, I think he could be good given the right environment. He needs a Moreno type driver to coach him, to help temper that speed and be a little more consistent. Hope the rumors true. |

If it is, I hope Eli Lily can get Bruno a really good deal on Prozac.
Mr. Bell reminds me a lot of Mikey in Formula One. Although I don't think he lasted as long, and I can't remember anyone actually getting out of a car and threatening to turn him inside out and tie his feet to his ears! Memo will be great in SWC; he's exactly the kind of guy they need over there and will be very happy. We'll have photos and I hope a few words from Sebring. Last edited by Liz; 7 Mar 2004 at 00:29. |

I would really like to see Haberfeld back in CART for 2004. I would also really like to see Bell back in CART. IMO Bell showed some promise. Crashing into stuff isn't good, but the fact that he had good speed means he has promise. Take Dominguez, in 2002 he stunk because he was slow. In 2003 he was agressive and I think everyone loved it, despite the fact that it was often TOO agressive. The point was that he was fast and able to win. The ideal rookie is like Manning, never damages the car and is really fast, but that doesn't happen very often. (I believe Manning had far and away the best damage record in the field) Haberfeld was a good rookie because he was fast, had some aggression and most of the time drove intelligently.

Lots of time has passed since the 2002 CART season... I suggest we quit branding Townsend Bell as "reckless" in 2004 until we see some evidence to justify that claim as being currently valid. I, for one, look forward to seeing him back in OWRS if the rumors are in fact true. If you ever met him and talked with him, you'd find he's a bright and likeable guy, along with being fast. I did.

I really hope they can land this thing in Las Vegas. A street race in Americas playground no 1 is really a genius idea. I don´t know if Casinos and gambling idiots gonna put up with all the noise that a Champ Car weekend is going to produce but I hope that. The whole idea has a sense of glamour over itself that makes me think of another famous street race, Monaco.
Anyone who have been to Vegas and can say something about good layout possibilities there ? |

He was just as "reckless" much of the time in F3000 last year. |

Continental, sorry, but as I posted elsewhere, Vegas has little chance of happening. It's March 9 and no one in that town knows anything about a potential race. If it was even a hint on somebody's mind, someone would know. The OWRS has now almost quit talking about it.

Judging by what I saw between Magnussen and Max Papis last weekend, perhaps Mr. Bell's future lies in Grand Am, driving a dump--er, DP car.

Team Rahal announced that Danica Patrick will be testing a Champ Car at Sebring on March 26th. This will be her first test in a Champ Car. It is obvious, however, that Champ Car intends upong getting Danica in Champ Car's so they can have some more marketability. |

Bruno Junqueira is here and walking around with a PacifiCare polo shirt on, so we suspect that PacifiCare will be back sponsoring Bruno Junqueira at Newman-Haas. |
