Another stoppage for rain...this time a little more substantial. Cars brought to pit road, but no red flag, only yellow-which means they are allowing work on the cars? First time I've seen that.

Smoke wins; Carl finishes 2nd. Points tied and tie breaker goes to Smoke.
2011 Sprint Cup Champ, Owner/Driver Tony Stewart. Congrats on his third Cup Championship!! |

What a great way to win a championship!
That was awesome - fighting adversity all night, the damage to the front of the car, two slow stops but drove flat out and just couldn't be caught. According to the commentators Smoke passed 76 cars to win the race - fantastic. Really good to see an old school kinda racer like Smoke come out on top. |

What a masterful job of driving by Tony Stewart. This was one of the great races to watch and it came down to who won the race would win the championship. First time ever that the championship finished in a tie....and Tony won the tie-breaker and it was well deserved, winning 5 of the 10 chase races races. Kudos to Tony.

Edwards was so dominant for much of the race there. I didn't think Smoke could clinch it. I knew he'd get close but..great job from Stewart. I'm bewildered today remembering before the Chase where Stewart was socialising with Jr having just got into the Chase with only poor performances under his belt.

I swore they were messing up leaving Tony out on that last go 'round of pit stops, but it worked out.
I still can't believe how the cream rose tonight. The rest of them, as they shouldn't have, didn't cut Carl or Tony any slack, but raced them clean. And what we got was good, hard clean racing between two of the best in the sport. Love how Tony could "dive" in the corners low and send it up the hill in front of the other drivers; no one else could really do that consistently like him and he did it all race long. Made some 70 passes all race. Awesome finish to the season. |

That was an epic final race, awesome drive from Stewart. I don't know how Edwards and Stewart have made the rest of the field look so average come the chase. Why didn't they do that during the year or in last years chase. Just amazing that it's been those 2 battling it out at the front during the chase.
I thought Stewart's crew chief was screwing him over with that late stop call as well, because he seemed to have the pace to pass Edwards anyway. Why take such a risk when you're already running 2nd. But that rain came out at the perfect time for him. If the rain flag had come within the last 30 laps, Stewart would have been toast on his old tyres. Great that Jimmie Johnson didn't win again. |

Great season finale, really happy to see Stewart battle his way to his third championship. Kudos to Edwards for being gracious in defeat as well.
Only 90ish days until it starts all over again... |

Interesting to watch the live press conference too..
Mr Haas, Mr Grubb & Mr Stewart spoke for over an hour, off their own bat, and in response to the questions from the press gallery Mr Stewart's team has apparently punted the crew chief that has got them the championship... the chat was kinda frosty, the body language not particularly warm.. Quite uncomfortable actually... Congratulations to Mr Stewart, and his team... hard luck for Mr Edwards and his team... to lose on a countback sucks badly! |

It does, but, he only won a single race out of 36. He'd only be champ based on consistency, which is a big problem with Nascar.
At least Stewart won the most races of anyone (still only 5!). In F1 that's the equivalent of Vettel winning just 2.5 races in the season. And in the case of Edwards, not a single win! That'd be worse than 1982! |

Tony Stewart's 'Eldora slide jobs' showed why dirt racing produces some of the best and most talented in the world. Only Tony could divebomb the corners and make up a ton of positions while not losing momentum down the following straightaway. A.J must be proud.

IMHO, it was one of the great nascar races of all time. Plenty of excitement for the entire race. Tony is one of the greatest drivers, ever, and he showed it at Homestead. Nascar said that he passed 106 cars during the race, amazing!!! Tony's determination was a great thing to watch.
And Kudos also to Edwards, he also drove a great race and was a gracious runner-up. |

The Star also confirmed that one of Tony's favorite hangouts in his hometown of Columbus, Indiana - the local Dairy Queen - was, as reported, giving away free cones to celebrate. Tony is not only a local race hero, but a well respected business man and philanthropist. |

I dont understand how those 2 can be so much quicker than the rest - i know the rest got out of there way, but still, that was Red Bull vs HRT in F1 pace

^It's always been that way, whether it is Carl and Tony, Dale and Jeff or Pearson and Petty; cream rises when the big money and the big trophy are on the line.
