2021 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class revealed

'At 5469mm long, the Maybach S-Class is a full 18cm longer than even the long-wheelbase version of the standard Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The firm claims this increase “entirely benefits the rear”, making it ideal for high-end chauffeurs.

The upgrade isn’t limited to more space, however, with the twin Executive seats fitted as standard allowing independent adjustment of the squabs and backrests.

Mercedes also claims that the footrest attached to the front seat and the electrically extending legrest (itself 50mm longer than that in the old Maybach S-Class) allows for a “continuous, comfortable reclining surface for a pleasant sleeping position”.'

In November 2014, Mercedes officially announced that Maybach would no longer be a brand in its own right, but a sub brand of Mercedes. All future models would be sold as Mercedes-Maybach. It was justified with the feeling of Daimler's executives that they would sell more vehicles by including Mercedes in the name, than they would if sold as Maybach alone.

Interestingly, off the back of the 'Chinese' comments - Daimler are targeting 50% of sales for Maybach models to be in the Chinese market.

I've seen about a dozen of the new 4s in Atlanta and oh dear god I would rather see a stream of Rolls "SUVs" than those. The blacked out grill is better, mostly cause you can't see it but still it's disgusting and the only BMW owners I know, including owners of multiple cars of M and non M builds, have said if that's the design they're out.


And is it just me of does the side look like they got a bad fax of the Giulia and said that's fine, let's do that. I know there's only so many places for a body crease and it's probably the red color but still. At least Alfa does the front end right, even if few buy the good one it seems. Only seen one Quadrifoglio and I've been looking. I drive about 2k miles/month through Atlanta.

There are strong rumors that nearly all V8 Mercedes will not be produced anymore.


For instance, the S580e has a 3.0L V6 370hp engine mated to a 150hp electric engine.

I'm not sure if that's a US market change or global. UK dealers are still stating that V8s will be available, including the Maybach models (V8 and V12).

Looking into this a bit further, it seems there is a differing approach between US and European sales.

In Europe, the need to meet fleet-wide CO2 emissions figures is driving down the number of models being offered with V8 engines. These are mainly being restricted to AMG and Maybach models, with limited numbers being produced. This (it is hoped by Daimler's board) will see the 'prestige' of a V8 being part of the Mercedes family and range of options, but not sold in any significant number.

In the US, the removal of most V8s from the range is being cited as 'supply issues'. I have seen a number of observers that think this is a result of reducing capacity in their V8 manufacturing overall as part of the EU requirements, which have had a knock-on effect in the US and elsewhere globally.

IMO - expect to see V8s in the Mercedes family for as long as they can, but increasingly priced out of reach of the majority.

That would make sense as the MB range can likely meet US CAFE rules without any loss in V8s, the seemingly billions of CLA/GLAs I see help that number. Even if they might be the ugliest things MB has sold here, but that's just me.

Now they could probably bring back some of the prestige in the US by NOT being like BMW and slapping AMG on all kinds of cars that aren't AMGs at all. It's like seeing all the baby BMWs with M badging on the side of the car with the smallest engine on offer and no sport tuning, just the wheels and a sticker.
