Crompo is world class and should stay until he wants to pack it in . Skaife can go, though.

Mr Hazelwood is doing a great job on the TCR commentary. He is your ‘play by play’ guy.. and is articulate and without stupid matey matey stuff.
His full time V8Supercar career shouldnt be completed just yet, however there are several round of the series till the enduros where a contribution could add value to the Fox/7/V8Supercar Television program |

It’s not bias that is the big issue with Skaife as a commentator. It is his incompetence.Limited cliched commentary vocabulary.Blokey humour that is about 40 years out of date. And of course the intrinsic conflict between his role as a commentator and a senior role in the Supercars business.

So.. the V8Supercar broadcast team seems very full these days.
Many many more people in the coverage mix. And reducing it seems the on air time (haha) of the bloke known as ‘the voice of V8Supercars” to less on camera action. Intentional? Presumably.. Better for the show? Not convinced. Needs another step change.. Please |

They had four pitlane commentators for the weekend , for a pair of 200km races….massively excessive especially when you’ve got the two race callers as well as the presenter (although she’s paid by Foxtel isn’t she, rather than Supercars Media?)

Does it really matter who and how many are there?
They are all talented in their own right. Play on |

Bathurst 1988
Do we think the current commentary team would be as strong and forthright as to share their frustrations with what they saw as subject matter experts as these more than capable gentlemen? When Uncle Doug Mulray has to take the role of straight man.. these blokes clearly had had enough. Interesting that one of today’s teev folks had a dummy spit at the beginning. Somehow I can’t see that happening on this year’s coverage… Garry Wilkinson and Mike Raymond as though leaders is truly a breath of fresh air.. |

Shriek From The Creek
Around the 52 minute mark you might notice a current commentator clashing with the 2005 Series Champion… But watching the whole thing again, having been one of the mob behind the garages when the power went out, the commentary, the approach, the resources used were all very different. No shouting, screaming and dare I say screeching from the commentary team One technical expert and a plethora of straight men, professional broadcasters all. Respect in conversations with the team, saying goodbye to Mr Larkham.. it was all kinda more gentlemanly that some of banshee-like recent broadcasts. How can the series recreate the best elements of this to improve the coverage….? And show off the non-top 4 teams as they don’t do that now.. |

Anybody hoping for a shakeup of the commentary lineup anytime soon is likely to be disappointed. As was the case with his predecessors, Barclay Nettlefold considers the dynamic duo appear to be a protected species.

It’s jobs for the boys
Shane Howard runs things and has been around too long, Nathan Prendegast has been around Supercars TV just as long , Crompton and Skaife are furniture of the same vintage. Why would they want to turf their mates out? In terms of succession, Neylon works for AirTime so there is the next “job for the boys” while Tander has played the game politically since he stopped fulltime driving. Anyone who doesn’t believe it’s an in club just ask Lachy Mansell or check out a recent Instagram story he posted. If you’re not in the “club of mates” you’re banging your head up against the wall |

Its irrelevent, no matter who calls the racing.
They are all knowledgible and passionate. No matter who was in the hot seat someone would always complain. For what its worth the series would be cr@p without Larko. Can be clever or silly but just dam good. |

Honestly saying I don't really get the huge criticism that Supercars commentators get and I've seen it even in Roland Dane's column at Speedcafe who pathetically seems to find an excuse for bashing the whole Supercars TV crew in every piece he write.
I mean, I get it, Skaife and Crompton are part of the whole Supercars business so it does leave a bit of a bad taste. On the other hand, though, is it really visible in their commentary? Wouldn't say so to be honest, it's not like news channel owned by government which feeds into the govt's propaganda. They say what happens on the track, rarely touch on off-track things, provide knowledgeable and interesting commentary, don't sound desperate in trying to make it sound exciting... Yeah, they're not ideal but no commentator would ever be and my impression is that there are hardly any commentators who aren't criticised for what they talk about or how they do it so it seems like it's an impossible job to do well if judged by comments posted on the internet. PR cheerleaders? Well, possibly in a way they are but in any big TV deal a commentator needs to create a positive image of a championship so it wouldn't change much if others did the commentary. |

I love Crompton when he does his after race pit walk, walks into pits where people are talking and just pushes into conversation, pushes not important people to one side and asks the special person some questions. Half way through he starts looking around for a new victim as this guy is running out of blood, by this time he isn't even listening to the guy answering his question anymore because he's seen someone even more important he wants to suck the blood out of. With that he thanks the standing corpse mid answer and rushes off to his new victim. I suppose it could be worse? Or it could also be new and fresh? |

Mr Diffey seems to be copping huge bouquets or massive brickbats on his NASCAR debut. Especially when they think he is English, not an Aussie who is now a naturalised American

Can you take commentary seriously when it’s the series producing its own coverage and employing the commentators? They do push the “govt propaganda” because it is a “state news channel”. The most independent member of the TV team is Jess Yates, who as far as I know is there at the behest of Fox Sports and gets paid by them, not Supercars. Quote:

It is interesting watching a video of Channel 7 doing their best to tear Group A apart considering how involved they were in the formation of Group 3A…

That was years away, and bear in mind 7 got involved so heavily in telecasting the championship BECAUSE of Group A, during Group C they concentrated mainly on Bathurst and Amaroo.

Thr Sierra dominance started to change their support and the GTR, despite being less dominant the Sierra (yes, you read that correctly, the stats don't lie) was the nail in the coffin as far as Seven was concerned. |
