I said it awhile back, this was going to happen. Manufacturers, teams, venues, the whole thing,... It's all coming together. And the best thing is,... there's no Bernie and Max to get in the way.

Well, it's not like the ACO and FIA need any help, since they are willing to drop Sebring for Qatar, and also drop the GTE-Pro class.

I think that the whole question Honda JAS NSX should move to the GT3 ACO thread

Well it appears COTA will be the 2024 American round of the championship but that will be a one off with Indy Road Couse coming in for 2025

COTA is good, they can stretch their legs there. I'd consider going there.

Disappointment all around if confirmed. So many tracks out there that would provide much better racing (= better product!) than these two. I guess I can now start dreaming about a Mugello round....

The only thing in Indy's favour over COTA is the lack of tarmac run off areas. It's grass, gravel or wall, as god intended.
But it's such a Mickey Mouse circuit. Made worse by the contrast with the Speedway. |

Yeah, it's entertaining at first and Cup cars ok I'll watch a bit, but overall wasn't my favorite F1 venue and even Indy can be tough. Not many passing opportunities if you stay on the track itself and with the mixed classes I'm not sure watching a parade to get 5 cars by on the front stretch is worth the Indy name but I guess the pagoda sells VIP access in climate controlled areas and even non-race folks know the Indy name

Whilst losing Sebring is a shame, could this open up the door for WEC entries to enter Sebring as a one off? Will not keep my fingers crossed tho
I think COTA is a good track just the run offs feel like it takes away from sensation of it Indy has same issues as any other Roval - as designed as an oval, the interior track will never be anything great. I think same of Daytona, if it was not for the 24 hours race it is a bit of a bland roval On a side note, I have enjoyed the schedule this year but would like them to see potentially closing the autumn gaps next year |

The difference with Daytona compared to Indy is at least most of the oval is used for the Daytona road course, which gives it its unique character on the IMSA schedule. The Indy layout may as well be in a carpark.

I'd expect WEC to run the T5-T6 loop to extend the length of a lap.

I don't believe the old GP circuit still exists, that dark line is the old track not a current alternate track. The track only lists the current Indy and MotoGP circuit as the road course, the previous isn't on the current maps
It might still be paved but not sure if that's the FIA graded path now, first Cup visit incar showed it but that was with the old metal curbing at 5/6 and it's been redone since. |

The T5-T6 loop is still very much operational, IC and Nascar simply choose not to run it. SCCA does for their Runoffs. Not sure about the Indy 8H last year.
The T8-9-10 complex has been redone and the old configuration no longer exists. Edit: Indy 8H ran the IC shortcut course. Only 23 entries for that one though, WEC will have (close to) 40ish by the time 2025 comes. Last edited by Coach Ep; 17 May 2023 at 13:50. |

The Indy circuit is an awful choice. Even worse than Qatar. Indy is so boring.

Wonder if the new course would be too short for an obscure WEC rule but haven't compared to Sebring or any other tracks. Or some decision made to grade X layout 1 and Y layout 2 and the check didn't clear to reconsider. Been trying to picture what that change would do other than open up that approach. The quick left right is near single file so that may allow Hypercar/GTP passing of GTs better through there as well. Or at least allow GTs an exit to give way if needed |

The Daytona road course is by far the best road course to be shoehorned into an oval by far. Indy is not great at all, they don’t even appear to take the banked turn at full speed any more?

One write up I saw said the last change took away the T1 oval corner for bikes. No idea if that's required or just happened at the same time
