We'll hope the end justifies the means, and it's grooved concrete and lots of dust right now. Tweets Briscoe, while work was still underway:
RyanBriscoe6: ...the work in progress! Texture feels perfect, great news! Big clean up for 8am practice though. |

8am practice, qualifying and the race itself all on the same day; the drivers/teams have certainly got their work cut out. Makes Bahrain look like a breeze.

Oh well, at least the race will be run in one shape or form.
Lucky it didn't rain or that concrete would have been a real ice rink. We all knew they were cutting it fine for this year with track preparation, at least it will be fixable for the future. What happened to the support categories , or weren't there any scheduled ? |

Howdy Jed,
There had been talk of support races some time ago, but I'd guess the condensed schedule made that impossible. In the endm nothing was planned. Below is an excerpt from an article by Doug Boles, published Saturday but written before cars has taken to the track...probably Friday. Boles is former owner of Panther Racing, and is a driver/ sponsor rep. Apparently some folks walked the track and were concerned about the problems that were soon to become evident. This isn't an effort to ride Cotman like a rented mule, but not everyone looked at the layout as acceptable. "Some of the teams are voicing concern about what appears to be a bumpy race surface, asphalt work that might come apart under the significant downforce created by IndyCars, and concrete areas of the track that might be lacking some grip that could cause cars to lose control. Currently that is all speculation because nobody has driven the track yet. The portion of the track uses an extremely busy roadway that was not scheduled to be shut down until late Friday night after the traffic in the city had subsided." Franchitti's quotes are always the best: Defending series champion Dario Franchitti also complained. “We knew it was going to be bumpy,” he said. “But this is kind of crazy.” He said they were grabbing air at one point in 5th gear, maybe it's that transition point at the middle of the back straight? |

It seems that today the situation is much better...of course, with so little time available, it will be a very uncertain race where, even more than usual, everything can happen...

IndyCar.com streaming starts at the top of the hour (in two minutes)
Apparently a great job was done fixing the track, the dust has settled, time to raise some more! Dario doesn't think the tire wear will be a problem. |

It's a shame Milka doesn't have the same sense that Sarah Fisher does when it comes to road courses. Either put someone else in the car or stay home as being nearly 10 seconds off the pace is an embarrassment for everyone involved.

Dont worry, she will take herself out in a crash or they will blackflag her pretty quick.

What's happened? Why did Power, Briscoe, Dixon and Castroneves go to the pit? I lost first three laps...

Lots.
Very Dusty S/F straight. Sato got in teh back of a few people at turn one. Chain reaction launched Moraes onto Andretti. Slow clean up, were on lap 7. All under caution. Green about to fly. |
