The driver in the rolling SAAB is Dean Randle and the Black Calibra is Daniel Tamasi.
The footage is from Speedweek produced by AVE in Sydney they have a website.
Dean was back racing in the rebuilt car remarkably quickly after that incident, he's currently taking a break from racing while the car is completely rebuilt.
Actually the guy rebuilding the car, Ron Hossack also has footage of the crash from a different angle which we ran on In Pit Lane. I don't have that footage now but Dean would certainly have it. I can put you in touch with him if your interested.

Lap record goes once, again, then again

Wakefield Park today:
Hossack sets new record on lap #9, then Ricciardello goes quicker on #13, only for Des Wall to follow him over the line quicker again.

Ricciardello from Hossack

Hossack got the lap record back with one heat win, a 2nd & a DNF, Ricciardello 2 x wins & a 2nd.

Lets hope for bigger fields.

Hey guys,

I'm searching for a guy named William Stevenson of Mt Druitt in NSW who built a sports sedan mini I believe in the early 80s. Any information I could find about this car and William would be greatly appreciated.

It looks sensational. Would be very interested to see what lap times David would do if he ever gets in behind the wheel. Des broke the lap record on the weekend in it at one point.

Was a bit messy when I saw it back in the paddock where Nick and Graham were busy trying to pry the front left wheel out of being jammed back into the front firewall. In typical Graham fashion he was still smiling though. Hopefully the damage isn't too extensive, I noticed some of the front framework had been bent near the front suspension arms etc.

The patience and persistence those 2 have with that car is incredible.

I was at Wakefield Park on Friday and Saturday and had a great time. Sports Sedans are awesome. How good does Hossack's car sound?

Just standing near that thing as it came out of the pits was good for some movement.

Was a very interesting weekend for the Sports Sedans at Mallala.

With the round win going to Des after Tony and Darren came together in Race 1 and 3, and Darren suffering damage in lap 1 of race 2.

expect to hear more about the race 3 incident as tempers were high after penalties being handed out after the race 1 incident. With the major issue being around "racing room" with Darren being penalized in both races

Good to See Des get up and take the Round Win. Not sure how the result affect the championship table.

That Corvette has some serious speed and two of the last rounds are at Oran Park. Would be incredible if Des could finally win the Championship after so many years of trying.

So far points as I understand it (barring any protests etc.)

Ricciardello 100
Wall 97
Hossack 94

as far as i heard all penalties were handed out on track for race 3 and a time penalty for race 1.

personally the race 3 accident was a racing incident. 2 cars exactly next to each other colliding, neither gave way into turn 1 and both went off from it

You will find that Hossack wont race the Audi again or possibly anything else this season because of a $5000 suspended fine hanging over his head, which is an absolute joke.

And quite likely that the car wont race again in the near future.

From what i have been told by a party very close to the matter, which dosent surprise me having been on the receiving end of the stewards at Mallala, it was a kangaroo court and nothing else.

WOW so there was further action after race 3?

I couldn't understand why he had a drive through after being up the inside, its not like there was a mad dash under brakes to make up ground the cars were along side each other coming down the straight and they simply didn't make it through turn 1 2 wide.

can't say anything on the race 1 incident as i didn't see it happen

Hopefully it does come out to race again, it is one of the most spectacular cars to watch around a track.

This sounds like the whole J.Tuelan GT thing all over again.
By the way, what do you mean by kangaroo court?

Team boss Scott Ellis accepted Hossack's Superkart runners up trophy on his behalf because Hossack was otherwise occupied wit the stewards, so yes there was some closed door action at the end of the day. More than just Hossack though mind you, Saloon Car racer Steve Kwiatkowski has all the points from a round removed because he sold his car interstate before it could be inspected by officials.
