at 21 he has 2 years to win a title and still be the youngest to do it.
and since no one bothered to teach him how to do anything else, he could well be racing F1 for another 20 years. he has a ridiculous amount of time ahead of him. https://www.statsf1.com/en/statistiq...mpion/age.aspx |

As has been said it wont be down to just his ability. The car and engine will have more influence than his abilities beyond token race wins. TBH I dont see him making the youngest podium given Alonso and Hamilton were not much older than Vettel when they snagged their first WDC. Unless Honda really get their act together for next year and Red Bull match Mercedes and Ferrari in the car dept. |

And about his erstwhile teammate, he chose to leave and is now ending up ramming into his teammate again Last edited by ApexTurtle; 4 Apr 2019 at 08:33. |

Well... there was the endlessly debated T1/2 incident at Interlagos, for one.

Must disagree, Vettel and Hamilton will retire sooner rather than later -- two prime teams which will be chasing Maximillion!

Was that the silly thing that led to the pathetic shoving afterwards? Not much to learn from that, the guilty party was slapped with a stop/go penalty and is not even in F1 anymore.

Are we in pointless argument territory again? I suppose that floats some people's boat.
Whatever, Verstappen had a mature approach to being unlapped and didn't put himself in unnecessary danger. That's all I meant. Probably not this year, but one year that could help him grab a few points that makes the difference for a title. |

It's not pointless, as it defined the careers for many Mercedes/McLaren drivers since the 90s. "Still in F1" was how they kept a lot of drivers on the books in the DTM parking slot (which is now the Formula E and Blancpain/VLN parking slot). Ocon is the latest victim of that. It's very rare for a driver to come back from the Mercedes bench. Ocon has to hope Bottas has a bad year, or he'll have to start working on his GT3 skills.

Of course, both a reserve drivers role and why people end up there is interesting and important to understanding F1. I wasn’t referring to that specifically, rather the style in which we got there.
