I imagine that the ACO had to do quite of bit of work to be allowed onto the Sebring weekend. Given how popular Sebring is, and how lackluster COTA was, I don't see them turning back on that any time soon. The fact it isn't Grade 1 but the ACO still went there shows how much they wanted it. Although they had talks with Indy, but Indy wanted to be paid by WEC to race, whilst WEC wanted to be paid by Indy lol.
But then again, Silverstone was one of the most popular events and they tried to drop that and then cut the race distance, so who knows what they're thinking. |

Finding a fitting spot on the calendar would have been a much bigger challenge for Indy as well as the mid-west climate is obviously much more restricting than the Florida one.

Couldn't the French spot it before announcing the first set of dates?

How come no-one's mentioned (?) that the stupid pit stop rules implemented for this season look to be demolished for good? About the only positive ACO related news to have come in recent weeks
http://www.dailysportscar.com/2018/1...-for-2019.html In addition to that, there’s been some tweaking to pit stops, with tyre changes not allowed during refuelling once again. Thee decision to allow tyre changes during refuelling was originally taken ahead of the 2018 season as an attempt to improve “the show”, but was widely criticised by teams and fans alike, and is in the process of being reversed across the ELMS and FIA WEC for the coming season too. https://sportscar365.com/lemans/wec/...m-for-2019-20/ https://sportscar365.com/lemans/elms...-ballast-2019/ There will also be success ballast in GTE-AM all across the board in WEC + ELMS, which with the round-by-round BoP means you will have two modes of artificial tweaking working simultaneously. Three if you count waivers. Isn't this real racing great Last edited by Deleted; 6 Dec 2018 at 14:34. |

I'd rather success ballast than bop every race. They should stick with the original bop and then tell teams have at it. Works for Super GT. Max ballast is only 50kg vs Super GT which I think is higher. If the continued tinkering goes on with it then it defeats the purpose imo.

Not a fan of success ballast. For GTE it really doesn't matter because that's a BoP-fest anyway so it's already wrestling instead of racing. But I hope it doesn't end up becoming a feature in the top class.

Updated Sebring entry
https://storage.googleapis.com/fiawe...ist_280119.pdf Not quite sure why they had to make another generic poster of their own (which to be fair is at least less awkward than their usual ones) when Roger Warrick's yet another amazing official art work for the event includes the 1000 miles as well... |

Jens Marquadt is quoted in this article. They are just considering options, so nothing concrete. One possibility is abandoning the BMW M8 WEC program and running a DPI instead. The M8's future looks safer in IMSA GTLM though. |

It's not secret that BMW is interested in next gen prototype regulations in general because they would like to get overall wins if the budget and technology is right, and I think everyone is having to consider how they're going to get off the sinking ship if the next prototype rules flop in WEC.

We saw from the latest Ford DPI article on sportscar365 that they are indeed considering running the Ford GT in 2020 in IMSA. Nothing is mentioned about the WEC though. Do you think we are done with seeing Ford in WEC after the 24 hours of Le Mans this year?

I think everyone has settled on the GT is done in WEC. I think they'll run the GT to keep something running in IMSA in case they build a DPi.

I think someone will try to run a couple privately. They're too good not to imo.

Hypothetically speaking do you think GTE is done after 2020 (replaced by GT3) if both Ford & BMW pull out of the next season (and it sounds like AMR is going to the new Hypercar class).

4 manufacturers if Brabham stays true to his/their word. Maybe 5 if Corvette goes global with the C8.R, but that's just the WEC. Vette will obviously stay racing in America and at least Le Mans so...

It was AF Corse + Aston + Proton-then-Manthey only for years and years so it'd just go status quo again. Unless AMR goes GTP but I don't think they still have the money even for tech frozen category.
