Big Stu - you could try contacting MRI or Page and Moy to see if there are any places left on one of their coaches. Okay it would only get you there for race day, but if you are struggling it might be better than nothing. Best of luck, it will all be worth it.

Genius. Hey that might be a good idea. I'm sure some of their coaches will get down there a day or two before. They must do some hotel/camping by bus trips (?).

They might be grateful to fill the odd place on the coach, otherwise they will just be empty seats (if they have any sense!).

Ah well, good ideas, but this plan of travelling across France is begining to appeal.......... Passport now arrived and I should be on the 1400 from Newhaven!
