Hello All in the cheetah forum.
I have a mk6 Cheetah I ame resotoring and am chasing a 2T engine to suit. I would love to find a complete engine as a runner for a swap with someone who maybe re-engining their mk6 or mk7. Or even anyone who has an Motor Improvements bell housing adaptor & dry sump pan to suit. I am trying to get the car back to origional and need these parts. I look forward to hopefully hearing from any leads any of you may have. Thanks |

Hello There Mk6 & Welcome,
What engine do you have currently in the Mk6 to swap. I have a MI 2T, but need a Golf 1600 for an Historic Log Book !. We should talk I suppose - send me an e-mail at racedesign@optusnet.com.au |

Hello again, thanks for the welcome.
Car was origionally built for Vince MacLaughlan in 1978 and was the second Mk6 the MacLaughlans had. It has been owned by several others since, and is currently not on the list Cheetah History list. I have had it for about 8 months. I am currently trying to get the COD with CAMS, but that isnt as easy as I'd like!! |

I'm sorry the Cheetah page on ORC hasn't been updated recently. I will go back through recent posts on this thread and go through the various emails I've received as soon as I get a chance.

That looks like a Mk6 Cheetah to me.
The only records I can find of a Sydney based (if the photo is Amaroo pit lane) Mk6 wearing #10 would make it the car of Graham Engel, but the only photo I can find shows Collier Tool Sponsorship in 1979 as a F2 championship car ? Perhaps the photo is from 1977 or 1978 when it was a F3 car ? Are you teasing us 275 ? - Do you know the car or a date ? Last edited by spook; 22 Nov 2007 at 10:41. Reason: TYPO |

Take a closer look at a Cheetah and a Ralt and then remove the bodywork. Thats when you start to notice some major differences. I could post some pictures of various aspects of a RT1 and a Mk6 and they are nothing like each other. The same goes for a RT4 and a Mk8 (except I'm a bit light on for mk8 tech photos). |

Following a little more research on Amaroo Photo
From Racing Car News Classifieds - September 1984 :- "Cheetah F2: Extensively modified by Harry Galloway, Features big brakes, bag tanks, bolt up engine bay, revised suspension and bodywork. Enquiries, Keith McDermott (with 02 numbers following !)"
There is also a picture of the car, but with a different nose, but I say the sidepods and position of the #10 are the same as the Amaroo photo ! |

More Clues needed
Not without more information I'm afraid, as the name McDermott does not appear in the known history of any Cheetahs on the ORC site.
Who did McDermott buy the car from ?, or who did he sell it to ?. Another name in the ownership chain might solve the puzzle. Did McDermott just own the car and he had someone else "do the driving" ?. |

Hello all
That photo at Amaroo looks like a Mk6 Cheetah, look at the naca duct on side of cockpit? I agree the rear wing side plates do look like RT-1 [cut back at sharper angle], but it could have been adjusted/re-made? The side pods look like std mk6 width with extensions back to rear wheels as they sometimes had?? Look at the RH side behind left wheel of amaroo car pic, the outer face of the tub is curved like typical mk6? The RT-1 were angled behind the front wheels, not curved?? Also the RT1 is bullnosed where the top of the tub meets the sides, a Mk6 is 90 degree between sides & top of tub. The photo may also even have costas on it?? "63-5" was a sydney car also before 1992?? See RT1 pic below. http://www.race-cars.com/carsold/ral...2/rt1352pa.htm |

There was also the American Bill Thomas Cheetah which was a Corvette/Cobra style of car. Around 13 cars were built and they were a mediocre performer on the track. I understand that the Cheetah name was used by Brian Shead prior to the previously mentioned manufacturers. |
