The borders close tonight for anyone from a hotspot. And then Tuesday night for the rest of Victoria.

This has just ****ed Supercars majorly. No way in hell are they going to convince enough crew from each team to leave Victoria now with no idea on a return date.

Professional sport was shutdown during the early stages of the pandemic. As things take a turn for the worse again there should be no reason to keep these sports going at all costs. If it comes to the point they have to stop again, then so be it.

As predicted, Supercars team prepare for run to the border.

Next round is 3 weeks later in Darwin, then another 3 until Townsville, so they will be need to be away from home for 8 weeks if the current schedule remains. Sandown is a further 3 weeks after that, although this must be in doubt.

E-Racing is something I can do myself. The video feed of someone else doing it was about as pointless a thing as I could imagine. Especially since a lot of them were just as bad at it as me.

Im with you Woolley. No interest at all in watching computer games on tv. Like watching someone else read a book or do a jigsaw. Participating is okay but not a spectator sport for me.

The whole point of E-Racing is you can pretend you can do what the racers do, without the budget or danger.

I love the analogy to watching someone reading a book. Nailed it with that.

How long/much would it take for QLD to get the track license back from CAMS?

NT declares Brisbane, Ipswich and Logan coronavirus hotspots for purposes of travel 😧

Presumably will be a problem for Brisbane based Triple Eight, and some Matt Stone and Penske staff who are likely to live in Brisbane or Logan. Only 6 hours notice, so no chance of beating the curfew. Darwin off, next stop Townsville?

Would it be considered unsporting to race without Brisbane-based 888?

F1 race is pressing ahead without Perez, so it would seem logical for Supercars to race on without 888.

But it's hardly fair for Perez's WDC chances is it?

To meet the minimum grid numbers, the Supercars grid could be topped up with Super2 teams from non-COVID hotspots. The colour schemes and sponsors of missing teams could be subcontracted to rivals, it's happened before after all.

To still press on with bringing Victoria team to "hubs" instead of cancelling the racing immediately upon VIC lockdown was arguably unwise IMO and has a set a precedent that the show must go on...

One option could be to delay the NT race by 2 weeks, and have Brisbane racing staff safely serve their two weeks supervised quarantine in Darwin.

Going racing made sense when we were exiting the first wave. Trying to race while we are entering the second will be extremely difficult, maybe impossible.

IMO sacrifice T8 for the greater good. How much money are Supercars spending keeping everyone up in QLD atm? Think of the Victorian teams, away from there families for how long now? To stop the show now would be a terrible waste, not to mention something like this happening was totally foreseeable when teams ran away from Victoria....then Sydney...

Big difference between a driver not racing whilst his team races on with someone else and the whole team not being permitted to race.

I'm not sure that it is just 888. As we know, all the teams are in Qld - but I'm not sure exactly where they are located in their temporary billets.

Plus there'll be team members who work on the Goldie but live in Brisbane - same likely for some Supercars staff as well.

Even those on the Gold Coast need to drive through Brisbane to head to the NT so might fall foul of NT's restrictions.

With the NT govt so heavily involved in the Hidden Valley race meetings, hard to imagine that they didn't give the Supercars crew some kind of "heads up" - or there may be some kind of exemption plan - if HV is to be a double header, those from Brisvegas might need to stay in some kind of bubble for the time they are up there.

Or the race meeting could be off - we'll have to wait and see.

Perez isn't a championship contender, this will rule out McLaughlin, Van Gisbergen and Whincup who are probably the only 3 with a genuine chance.

Except most Super 2 teams are also based in Covid hotspots, so would face the same problem.

So what was the alternative? Say it was all too hard, shut down the sport until Victoria reopens (which now is probably several months away), watch the tv and sponsorship money dry up and have teams go under? Was always a strategy that further border closures could derail, but at least there has been a genuine attempt to keep it alive. Ipswich Raceway's bargaining position may have somewhat strengthened though.
