It's been rumored for more than a couple seasons and board members ALWAYS deny everything until the minute they announce so following their comments is a fools errand.

Not sure what the exact life cycle of this rumour was.

As far as i can tell, the current virus in China which threatens to end all intergalactic trade features heavily in said rumours with the Mercedes board meeting now to decide on how best to leave earth without telling Lewis Hamilton.

It appears he is being paid by the team, bringing money wasn't part of the deal. I'm guessing the others have paid for him to be on track a few times and correlate the sim. And it seems he will still be allowed to pursue F2 as well, according to Racer.

That’s fine, but if you wanted to hire and pay a reserve driver for your sim, there would be a fair choice of drivers with more experience.

Also, if you wanted to give them track time to correlate the sim, then an FP1 would definitely not be what you’d use. And you’d also want that as early in the season as possible.

At best he gets to promote his F1 link with sponsors and maybe gets a small space on the F1 car for which he gets a healthy commission when he sells it.

They are ahead of last year then.... didn't they completely miss the first few days last year because the car was still being built? I seem to recall others were pounding round doing laps in Spain, and Williams were still in the UK not even having had an initial fire up for any systems checks to take place...

And when they did turn up they had brought a donkey.

Hopefully this year will be better.... or as good as an evolution of a donkey can be.

I interpreted from the article on Motorsport regarding Ross Brawn's comments on Williams that Williams say they are confident about being ready for the first test. Is that not a given? Not good. Poor George Russell, the guys a class act.
