This car should be brand new. The current ByKolles has roots back to the Lotus lmp2 and further. It works for them (at times) so I guess the time for change has finally come. Unless they use the same underpinnings, which I highly doubt, this car might be a breath of fresh air. I don't know what car on the road it's supposed to resemble, if any but it looks good so far. Besides, resembling a real/production hypercar might not be a requirement.

Judd is still around right? I think they can mend their relationship with Nissan if they get an upgraded or new engine. I think their best bet is to skip the current TT V6 and go with a more powerful version of the new lmp3 engine- the big V8 VK56. No reason to worry about efficiency in the new rules, just power.

I think the only "point" of LMGTP/Car-Car is to create a stop-gap measure between LMP1 and Zero Emission... thankfully it shouldn't take too many years

ByKolles has announced Gibson as new supplier for their engine. They are planning to be ready for the WEC race in early May. Quite a challenge for the team to rework the car for an atmospheric engine in short time. Hopefully their engine troubles are now gone and we will see how good or bad their chassis really is.

So the only non-Zytek LMP1/2 cars left in the world now are the Toyotas, SMP Dallaras and Ginetta (if it ever shows up again)...
Anyway, EoT was very generous towards that engine last year... |

They should be able to run at 818kg now. Since the non-turbo engine cars currently get a weight break; Rebellion and DragonSpeed. They also get more fuel energy per stint, fuel (kg) per stint plus bigger refueling diameter than turbo engines. This is another reason I suggested they switch from a turbo engine to a NA one. Good call imo. I bet it'll save them some weight too.

Thus ends the storied career of a great LMP1 program. Thanks for all the memories Nissan even though we more laughing at you than with you.

Yes... but technically you can still buy the Nismo-Cosworth if you wish, just like you could Judd or whatever else, it doesn't "have to be" dead... and they're still the spec engine in LMP3

So I guess that there'll be no more waiting to see the Kolles entry burst into flames (kinda) at random?
In all seriousness, I think that trying to run a turbo engine may've been the root of the problems for all I know about the Kolles machine. Turbocharged engines have different cooling parameters than atmo engines do, and atmo engines typically have simplified requirements as far as cooling and heat rejection/packaging. Now I guess we'll watch and see for a different reason as to how the Kolles team gets on, and I hope that this experiment will be a success. |

The press release is funny.
ByKOLLES, leading WEC LMP1 team which uniquely designs and builds its own chassis They are unique in that design and build their own chassis. So...how about those Toyotas? |

Sometimes there is a thin line between ironic and pathetic, bykolles crossed this line with a truck in downhill.... designs perhaps, builds is a lie. About toyota, well someone could argue about the matter that chassis/aero is designed by german TMG, hybrid stuff designed by third parties, while just V6 is from japanese toyota. |

That's not exactly how that reads, it's not that they are unique in designing and building but it's rather referencing then designing and building their unique chassis. It's poorly worded and would be better said as they design and build their own unique chassis. But in the grand scheme of what Kolles has done that's LOW on the list of stupidity.

ACO isn't alone in this. And I wouldn't even say this is a modern thing either - I think we had an unusual level of stability in ACO racing with the LMP1/LMP2/Pro/Am, where as before classes were inserted and removed all the time. ByKolles is not in a sub-class. It's racing against Toyota, Rebellion, SMP and DragonSpeed. |

Without trying to drive the conversation to another place, let me remind you that to be "racing against" someone, you need to show up on the grid in the first place. Some changes look negative on the surface but you will soon realize that space is being created in our lives for something new to emerge. Perhaps they are not showing up in Sebring cause they are not able to "race against" some of their competitors. |

Missing a race for an engine change, and not showing up for a race are not the same thing.

Correct. For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can't readily accept the God formula, the big answers don't remain stone-written. Let's see what is the next excuse. The super-season is not yet over. |
