New controversy: Red Bull have a device for adjusting the front bib height between qualifying and the race (when the car is in parc ferme). They claim it doesn't influence performance but will have to delete it for Austin and onwards.
So, it doesn't influence performance. Why did they do it? To stop the mechanics getting bored? The issue does raise a point that has always puzzled me, and it applies to every car on the grid. How can cars be sparking like crazy during qually when they are running on minimum fuel, then spark less at the start of the race when they have 100kg on board? |

All cars will modify the bib height through the season, as required for different tracks and setups. RBR built their car in such a way that making these adjustments is achieved through this device (other teams may require components to be removed for modification). The FIA have introduced controls to make sure that the device is not exploited under parc ferme. Quote:

I don't really know the rationale behind the no setup changes and parc ferme conditions after quali. I can understand if it stops teams from fitting expensive "short life" quali spec parts which are then changed before the race, but if its just making basic setup changes (ride height, camber, spring rates, damper rates, roll bar etc), then I don't see the problem in allowing all of that...?

Would this then also allow them to make ride height changes faster or in a less obvious way pre race, on the grid, during pit stops?

US GP is on this weekend.
Without Mr D.Ricciardo in a VCaRB. Life moves on. The world moves on. Doesn’t mean it is better or worse. Just moved on. |

Between Q1 and the GP Lawson showed why he should be there and why ,if he continues at that level ,he should replace Perez in 2025. Lawson should have been in the RB seat all year.Mark Hughes said in The Race podcast on Ricciardo’s retirement that it was obvious to everyone in the paddock at the end of last year that he was no longer the driver he had been 4-5 years before and if that was the case at his age he served no purpose in the Red Bull driving line up.Except maybe as a pawn in the Horner/Marko wars. |

The floor and the sidepod of Perez' car were damaged after he tangled with Lawson, which wouldn't have helped. |

Comments in the Williams thread about RBR hunting for Colapinto, and with some pretty punch numbers being thrown around.
RBR's decision-making this year is frankly nuts, perhaps not surprising given the chaotic political atmosphere. They have only themselves to blame. Renewing Perez's contract in April when almost everybody else could see that he was simply nowhere near the level needed. Now, having realised that their punt was wrong and that he is indeed nowhere near where he needs to be (and seemingly getting worse), they will need to spend a small fortune to end his contract ~6 months after it was signed. And, they need to make a decision about his seat. Given they also ****ed away the opportunity to test Lawson properly by clinging on to Riccardo, again seemingly hoping in some Panglossian fashion that despite all the evidence to the contrary that his form will suddenly improve. So now, at the death of the season, they are frantically looking at any other good option, with precious few options available. For those who follow football, even Man Utd seem more orderly than this rabble. RBR deserve a similar 10 years in the relative wilderness. |

Red Bull really have shot themselves in the foot over this one. Too much focus on Verstappen and not enough on other drivers. Perez has been lacklustre and quite frankly should have been dropped, instead of having his contract renewed. Tsunoda is good, but should have made progress up by now. Ricciardo's time has been wasted, not least by the way he's been treated. And Lawson has spent too long on the sidelines. Really the team need to get a grip now, as it's starting to harm them

It has you wondering if the reported ‘20 million’ is for an immediate swap?

It might be an unfashionable view but I wonder if Perez is demonstrating the inherent speed of the car and Verstappen is proving quite how fast he is in spite of the car.At the same time, the team may be demonstrating that losing several key personnel has impacted on their rate of development,or implementation of modifications that add speed.
