Ferrari Challenge cars, and hell even the street versions have more power than the Ferrari LMGTE cars... yeah the racing logic doesn't always make sense

Great to see such a run of reliability at Silverstone from both cars; it's been a long time coming.

Interesting (and extremely frustrating to me!) note on DSC
-- The 3rd & 4th placed overall finish from the pair of AER engined R-Ones would, had the privateers team been registered for Manufacturer Championship points, have been good enough to tie Toyota for the overall Championship lead. |

I've been saying all along, just have them all jammed together like they used to be in ILMC/LMS/ALMS, kill the subclass-glorifications no-one ever cares about. Every once in a while situations like these might occur. Plus they encourage for multi-car campaigns. That would have been great headline for Rebellion (or anyone!) to have, "Rebellion Racing beats Audi and Porsche for tied overall lead in the World Endurance Championship". |

Rebellion tweets, in form of joke, that they need more power + downforce and better balance. It may just be a more general "wish" than track/session specific, but the fact they want more DF at track like Spa, and when LM is coming up, is still interesting. I guess the Orecas are still clumsy in the corners and that's the main area where they are loosing time.
But the top speed charts, even though they rarely mean much, are very encouraging for Mulsanne so the lack of downforce shows there: http://fiawec.alkamelsystems.com/Res...actice%202.PDF 6,2kph quicker than the fastest factory car, and over 30kph faster than top LMP2 |

They lose about 2 seconds in S1 and S3 to the hybrids and those sectors are mostly flat out. And in S2 they are slower than the LMP2s.

It should be evidence as to why the gap to top LMP2 is two or three seconds in the mostly high downforce F1 tracks, and around 10-12 at Le Mans. Even if we take into account the longer track and the gap multiplying effect of it

while lmp1-H can use >1000hp for most of kamell straight, rebellions can't afford more than about 600hp from the AER... however they hit a considerable high top speed with #13 hitting 314km/h!
don't need to be an engineer to understand that both r-one run basically with the lowest downforce available |

Interestingly, the last time they were at Spa in 2014 with the debuting R-One (and Toyota engine), they were at 285-296kph top range only after all the sessions, and it was around the same for old Lola in previous year. Of course some of that increase has been due to the development + AER + EoT, but still
I think they'll be able to get to '25 at LM |

honestly don't think that r-one receiver a lot of aero update since 2014... the 3.4 TMG was a really weak engine. You can tell everything about the AER, but surely none could complain about power output.
Of course >100kg/h of fuel flow helps a lot. |

Hydrid is typically used mostly on low speeds for quick accelerations. Top speeds on long enough straights( like Kemmel ) is determined basically by ICE and drag. With worse acceleration, due to lack of ERS, privateers will only take longer to reach their top speed, methinks |

Speaking of onboards, I can't understand why they still can't get TV cameras on the privateer cars at LM, heck even some LMP2s have them now. If you want to have customers in your class, give them some visibility. At least cover them at night when they are going through Mulsanne, rather than showing pit footage of some Aston Martin in position 43.

I kind of already noticed it at Silverstone when they got stuck in the traffic, but now especially in Spa qualifying... Piquet is kind of hopeless? His pace is what dooms #12 behind #13. Heidfeld pushes like 2 seconds better laps.

He is a rookie ya know. With more seat time maybe he'll be faster.

Amazing result, again! So many happy faces on pitlane The horrors of last year are redeemed. These kinds of results should prove people why to invest on the LMP1s. Le Mans will be glorious if they can keep the Orecas running as steadily as until now, and if the factory unreliability and other screwing up keeps happening at same rate. Hopefully Piquet improves. He might be a "rookie" but has done this before in other categories. It's bittersweet for #12 to be finishing behind when it means 4th spot Last edited by Deleted; 7 May 2016 at 21:04. |
