I think the last time teams did that they got snow in Spain, so they decided it wasn’t worth the cost and hassle. Plus the tracks there aren’t really like the UK ones they race on.

I was expecting Michael Crees and Nic Hamilton at Speedworks but it would be good if it was Dan Rowbottom to join Rory Butcher. That team haven't really ever had two top drivers before. It would also open up a seat at Dynamics who are one of the few teams you can guarantee will only sign a top driver. Obviously I would want it to be a return for either Matt Neal or Jason Plato but think that is unlikely.

Butcher, Rowbottom and Gamble would be a very decent Speedworks lineup, probably their strongest ever, as much as Rowbottom was a disappointment last year.
There are still some top seats available (or at least not confirmed), hope to see strong drivers there.

It’s not stopped the GT teams or smaller club racing so I doubt that.
I imagine it’s more to do with getting data on the circuits you are going to be racing on is more critical with the regulation/hybrid changes there have been.

Bang on. Not sure about the apathy, there's definitely been a lot of uncertainty over the winter. Drivers that have signed, deal done etc only to then pull out or have to find backing from elsewhere. As we've seen even in the last couple of weeks.

Plus teams have probably been encouraged to save money, so going abroad is off the menu

Plenty of non-BTCC teams still go abroad for testing - Elite (from Ginettas, F3 and now GT3) always go abroad over the winter for testing

If a car is crossing the water more than once in a year then maybe the carnet cost is ok but for a one off test it is quite an additional cost - especially when you go there and it snows like mad!

Carnets are a cost minute compared to the increase in transport costs . They are now double and it has nothing to do with Brexit . Nothing at all to stop them going abroad other than costs .

BTCC has a natural period of down time I the winter because budgets dont come all year round . The cars have to be refreshed and that is dependent on what the teams have in the bank . Not many have money for that .

Many UK GT teams are already in full european test

They run everything from C1s to Trucks, so doesn't means it's in any way BTCC related, other than the merch the post is there to advertise. Anyhow, they already have more BTCC drivers than they know what to do with.
