I don't think IMSA should adopt LMP3 at all. But it seems they might be going that route. A single prototype class (call it GTP if you like), GTLM, and GT3 (the only pro-am class needed I think) will be fine going forward.

Question...if the ACO really cared about cost cutting, why not mandate all bodywork for the P2 cars be made of fiberglass instead of carbon fiber?

Listing all the cars that currently are allowed to compete in LMP2:
Bailey LMP2 (not sure if it's made eligible by ACO) BR Engineering BR01 Dome S103 Gibson 015S HPD ARX-03b HPD ARX-04b (not eligible yet) Ligier JS P2 Lola B08/80 Lola B11/40 Lola B12/80 (includes Mazda SDR-14) Lotus T128 Morgan LMP2 Morgan LMP2 Evo Norma M200P Oreca 03 (includes Alpine A450) Oreca 03R (includes Alpine A450b) Oreca 05 Pilbeam MP100 (not sure if it's made eligible by ACO) Radical SR9 (not sure if it's made eligible by ACO) Zytek Z11SN I know a lot of these cars don't compete anymore or are an updated version, but it's shame that we loose this variety and will 'only' get 4 different chassis' in return. |

There will be any posibility to have the same chasis with different aero packs? Like the IMSA regulations
In that case it won't be very different to the actual state, because there are a lot of cars based on the original Courage designs |

From what I understand the aero packs are only allowed in IMSA, not in Le Mans, WEC, ELMS.

I think I saw someone ask the question about fiberglass over carbon (on Mike's FB page I think) and the answer was that much of the cost was in tooling and labor. So not much in the way of cost savings if a switch in composite material.

that depends if you need an autoclave for the carbon - if you do, that makes process and also the tooling more expensive
just wondering if LMP2 goes 600BHP - whats the point of privateer LMP1-L ? |

Good point.Maybe they need to move it away from an LMP3.They really need a 450hp prototype class and open cars ought to be part of it.

Whats with this constant desire to make the cars narrower? Why is it that the LMP2 cars will be narrowed (like the current LMP1?).

Good question. It makes for more efficient aero I suppose, and possible a reduction in weight. Although, they don't actually want the cars to get any lighter from what I've seen.

They want to bring cornering speed down by lowering the potential amount of downforce.

Yep, all things they frankly, shouldn't be doing.
Why reduce mechanical grip? I can't imagine there is anyone out there that wants less mechanical grip? Narrowing the cars also would make them slightly more unstable compared to the same car of an increased width. I really struggle to understand the narrowing of the cars at all. They look far worse, they go faster in a straight line (something the ACO doesn't really want), less mechanical grip, and they are more unstable. The thing is, we have seen this before. It doesn't work. All the teams will do with narrower cars is run with even more downforce, because they can afford to do so thanks to the less drag the car will have down the straights. |

I know it's late but BR Engineering is submitting their LMP2 Construction bid. On the other hand, I feel that it'll blocked by IMSA due to sanctions.

It's probably to make it easier for chassis manufacturers to go from LMP2 into LMP1 and vice versa.
