according to drivers impressions, that car has a great cornering speed. In most of race but spa and nurgring 24h lacks of a real work/official team behind.
M6 GTLM suffered of huge tires wear rate issues all the 2016 season long, and this year didn't start so great not surprised... displacement x turbo boost for the whole rpm range make that car like having a NA >8L

Well the Z4 was an 'old' car right? I don't know if that's why they replaced it but I wonder if the m6 also gets replaced when the new gte car appears next year?

It is extremely difficult to build up and homologate a competitive GT3 car without direct input from the manufacturer. The manufacturer will always want the competition cars to be, at least somewhat visually related to what they are selling.
If the manufacturers have so little faith in their product who would go out and buy a Jaguar or a Hyundai?

I don't think the m6 will go away overnight, but I do think that a new car (and m6 model) will be made. If the new car in gte is different to the m6, I think that BMW will change the m6 gt3 to the same as the gte, at least in the near future, maybe not next year or even 2019.

It's not as if BMW set out to have the M6 be both a GT3 and GTE car. I don't think the GTE model has any bearing on it. The Z4 GT3 and the ACO spec M3 GT2 were introduced at the same time. It's just RLL has been stuck with modified GT3 cars since the full blown GTE program ended.

My thoughts are on BMW being all in favor for GT convergence. If you're going to develop one car you would really like for it to be interchangeable. The Ferrari 488 is a car that can rather easily be converted to and from GTE and GT3. Plus, BMW stands to make more money with a brand new GT3 vs update kits to the M6

In a German magazine Jens Marquardt says that there will be a new GT3 car in 2019. He already knows on which car it´s based, but he doesn´t reveal which one.

The Z4 whilst nimble courtesy of its short wheelbase received many gripes from operators about being too fidgety.

The M6 platform was originally chosen due to its aerodynamic benefits, and much longer wheelbase providing some additional neutrality to its handling.

How long the car will remain in circulation is a mystery.

So one year after the new GTE car. My guess is they'll be the same.

I know of at least of one BMW factory driver who favours the Z4 over the M6 any day. Maybe the car is not as got as it was supposed to be.

Problem is that GT3 cars have to work for the gentleman drivers, an edgy car may be fastest for a pro but tough for an am.

Good news for the Super GT 300 squads, who can now fight for an overall win. Will this eventually be integrated with the other big GT enduros (Sepang, Bathurst, Spa, Laguna)?

Still no pressurized oil filler? Remember Hindy being very head-scratchy as to the BMW's oil refill during the latter hours of the Bathurst 12h. "Look at that, he's refilling oil on this car just as you would at home!". Contrast that with the spezialized jugs and inlets we've been seeing on the other GT cars for centuries..

Couple of exciting announcements from Geneva today

Firstly the new McLaren 720s, looking in great shape for a potential GT3 and or GTE car

Secondly the new AMR brand under Aston Martin, which hopefully signals an update on the new ageing Vantage models in GT4, GT3 and GTE

There was a piece in DSC a while back suggesting that but nothing mentioned since.

Do you have more firm sources?

2019 is so late considering the current one isn't really a well-loved car ... would love to see way more Astons up front.

New Nissan has broken cover. Can't say what I was expecting but I was hoping for more of a development than this

Pretty though

Read on DSC that it may feature a derivative of 2L engine as found in the GT500 GT-R. So that would already be a big change in itself.
